“You must be disappointed…” Caroline’s voice was weak, her lips curling into a bitter smile, one that looked worse than crying. Tear stains were still visible on her face. “My child, is still alive inside me. You all wanted it dead… but just like me, it refuses to give up.”
As she spoke, David finished untying the ropes around her legs. Caroline immediately pulled her legs together, pressing her hands against the bed as she struggled to sit up.
Her face was deathly pale, her eyes hollow and lifeless, but her lips dazzling red. Because she had bitten them so hard, she had drawn blood. She had no strength left to stand. She could only sit there, her gaze sweeping over every person in the room.
Then, she lowered her eyes. And when she lifted them again, she looked straight at David. “…. I hate you.”
“Hate me?” His expression remained unreadable. “Because I didn’t fight as hard as Nash to save you, it’s?”
“I hate that you married me but refuse to divorce me, refuse to let me go! I hate that you could have given me my freedom, but instead, you keep me by your side just to torment me!” Caroline screamed, her voice hoarse with fury. “Yes, I’m carrying a child that isn’t yours, I’m willing to take responsibility, I’ll leave with nothing, I’ll disappear from your life completely! What more do you want from me?! Do you have to sacrifice two innocent lives that could have been born into this world?!”
Nash’s eyes widened in shock. “Two lives?”
Julia froze, “You…you’re having twins?”
“Yes,” Caroline nodded, “Do you know how rare it is to conceive twins, I thought I was lucky, But now, I realize it’s nothing but a curse.”
Because right now, I didn’t even know if these two fragile lives will make it into this world. I was too weak, too powerless to protect them.

Her fingers dug into his sleeve, gripping so tightly that her veins bulged beneath her skin, stark against her fragile wrist.
“You can hate me, for carrying a child that isn’t yours, but tell me have I ever had the right to choose? Was any of this ever my decision? From the very beginning, was any of it voluntary? I just want you to let me go, David, Give me back my freedom please…!”
