Just as the word “divorce” was about to leave her lips, David suddenly spoke, his deep voice drowning out
hers.
“Caroline, how could you be the one to say this?”
Caroline froze, turning to look at him. If I didn’t say it, is he going to? Would David really be that generous?
Uneasy, Caroline clenched her palms. “It’s fine. I can say it.”
Harper glanced between them, clearly confused. “You two are making no sense. What exactly are you trying to say? Your relationship isn’t what I think? Then what is it? And what’s this secret about the pregnancy plan?”
Caroline opened her mouth, but before she could get a word out, David wrapped an arm around her waist. With a small exertion of strength, he lifted her and settled her onto his lap.
“Hey, you-!”
Does he have no shame? Does he not care how embarrassing this is? Madam Harper was sitting right there, and yet he was pulling moves like this?
“Be good.” David lowered his head, his warm breath brushing against her ear. “Just stay in my arms. Leave
the rest to me.”
Caroline understood immediately.
