Elizabeth thought Harper was starting to accept her, so she smiled even more eagerly. “Yes, yes! If you ever have time, Mom, you should visit the Brooks family. I’d love to host you properly and show my respect.”
“No need!” Harper rejected her outright without a second thought. “I’ve seen the kind of tricks your family plays.”
Elizabeth froze. “Pardon? I… I don’t understand…”
“Back when Caroline used to visit the orphanage, she often had bruises all over her body. That was your doing, wasn’t it?” Harper’s tone was sharp and unyielding. “As her younger sister, you constantly targeted her, bullied her, and tried to crush her. I’ve heard plenty about the things you did. Listen to me, Elizabeth, stay away from the Ellison residence, and stop trying to get close to David. He’s your brother–in–law. Know your place and quit your little schemes. Otherwise, Caroline might be too soft–hearted to do anything to you, but I won’t hesitate to step in and take care of you myself. Do you understand?”

Elizabeth didn’t dare push her luck. She could only nod. “I understand, mom…”
“What did you just call me?”
Elizabeth swallowed hard and corrected herself. “Madam Harper.”
Only then did Harper cast her a disdainful glance before turning away. “Paul.”
“I’m here, Madam Harper.”
“From now on, do not allow her to enter the Ellison residence. She is also not permitted to approach David or Caroline.”

But before she could take another step, Caroline was already standing in front of her.
David stood behind Caroline, completely blocked from view.
“You came to the Ellison residence to see how badly I’d end up, didn’t you?” Caroline asked. “Well, now you’ve seen it. Satisfied?”
“I… I came to see Mr. Ellison! What are you even talking about? Sis, why do you always have to pick on me?”
Of course, Elizabeth would never admit it.
