Caroline scoffed, shaking her head. Seriously, how useless can you be? David was drugged–completely out of it and you just left him like that? Didn’t take care of him? So, of course, I had to step in.”
“I worked overtime till midnight, ran around all night like crazy, exhausted to the bone, and still had to take care of David… Ugh, life is so unfair.”
She swore she wasn’t bragging–just venting.
Her arms were still sore. They’d probably stay that way for days.
If Elizabeth had been around, she wouldn’t have had to deal with this mess…
But to Elizabeth, those words were pure provocation. A blatant display of dominance. Mr. Ellison has been with Caroline again!
Elizabeth had stripped down to nothing, yet in the end, she was kicked out. David would rather suffer an injury than touch her.
But Caroline?
She had him effortlessly. Taking care of him, tending to his wounds, and spending the night with him.
Elizabeth had painstakingly drugged him, only for Caroline to reap all the benefits. She got nothing- except humiliation.
Talk about digging her own grave.
At this rate, even if Caroline lost the baby she was carrying, she’d just end up pregnant with Mr. Ellison’s child again.
And when that happened, Caroline would be untouchable, living the high life as the lady of the house.
“Yeah, poor you, must be exhausting. Elizabeth said though gritted teeth, her jaw so tight it ached. “If you’re that happy, just say it. No need to be all passive–aggressive about it.”
Caroline rolled her eyes.
Unbelievable.
She had been nothing but a tool last night–hauling ice keeping him company, running around on edge the whole time.
“Happy? What’s there to be happy about?” Caroline shot back. “Did you drug David? Who else would pull something this disgusting if not you?”
Elizabeth’s face twisted in anger. “You… You’re slandering me!”
“We’ll find out soon enough. The truth always comes out. If it wasn’t you, then why did you show up right after David was drugged?”
With that, Caroline turned and strode into the office.

David’s expression remained unreadable. “Have you decided on a number?”
He had told her before–he’d compensate her. Enough money for her to live the rest of her life in luxury.
Elizabeth couldn’t accept it. She let out a sharp, hysterical scream. “You can’t just throw me away like this, Mr. Ellison! I’m the one who loves you the most! What is Caroline to you? What has she ever done for you?
She had used every trick in the book–scheming, manipulating, playing both the victim and the villain. And now, she was backed into a corner.
She had done everything to push Caroline out of the picture.
And in the end? She had lost everything
David didn’t just dismiss her–he despised her.
Elizabeth finally snapped, realizing that no matter what she did, it was all pointless.
