Caroline went quiet. Fine. Let him do what he wants. If he wanted to compete with Nash, so be it. Why are men so petty and jealous?
It was just one product line. She was Ellison Group’s formula specialist now, and she’d be developing plenty of other products for the company in the future. So why was he so fixated on the one I had created for Nash?
“Caroline, you should think carefully,” David said, narrowing his eyes. “If sales don’t surpass Nash’s company, what are you going to do?”
“I… What can I do? I’ve already done my best.”
Then that means you weren’t truly doing your best before. Otherwise, why can’t you outperform a product you developed yourself?”
What kind of logic is that?
She really couldn’t argue with him!
After a moment’s thought, Caroline countered, “Then what if this time, sales completely surpass Nash’s company? What will you do?”
David remained calm. “Isn’t that the bare minimum?”
Caroline was left speechless.
“It’s your job,” David added.
Caroline’s eyes lit up with an idea. “You’re right. But.. remember you promised me a sales commission for Caroz.”
The more it sold, the higher her commission!
“I did, David confirmed with a nod. “I keep my word.”
“Then, of course, I want Caroz to sell like crazy. Why wouldn’t I? Between men and money, money is way more important.”
Right now, she needed money more than anything. Lor? Past relationships? First loves? All of that could take a back seat.
David glanced at her. “You love money that much?”
Caroline nodded enthusiastically. Money, now that is the most reliable thing in the world!
“You could just ask me for it,” David said. “You’d get way more than you could ever earn yourself. And… it’d be easier.”
If Caroline was sweet and attentive, if she coaxed him into a good mood, he could toss her a few million as pocket money without a second thought.

Caroline replied, “David, money you earn yourself will always feel more secure than money you ask for.”
“But no matter how much you earn, it’ll never be more than what I could give you.”
“So what?” Caroline said. “When I earn it myself, I have confidence, dignity, and I don’t have to sacrifice my self–respect.”
David let out a short laugh and replied, “Fine. I hope you always think that way.”
To him, Caroline was just making things unnecessarily lifficult for herself.
She refused to take the easy road and insisted on struggling.
But Caroline firmly believed that taking shortcuts too often would make her forget how to walk the right path. She would lose herself. She saw nothing wrong with her choice.
“David, instead of wasting time arguing with me, you should keep a closer eye on Andrew,” Caroline reminded him. “He has a serious grudge against you. Who knows when he’ll pull some dirty trick and. cause major trouble for Ellison Group?”
“He’s not capable of that.”
A defeated rival. How much damage could he really do? David didn’t consider him a threat at all.
Coincidentally, just as David and Caroline stepped out of the women’s restroom–one after the other- they ran straight into Andrew.
