Caroline closed her eyes and let out a long sigh.
Here I go again, falling into the clutches of this demon. Who knows what’s going to happen next?
“Mrs… uh,” William quickly corrected himself, “Ms. Careline, this way, please.”

Neither the CEO nor his wife had acknowledged their relationship, so there was no way he’d be the one to spill the beans.
Fine. Let’s just see what happens. It’s not like he’ll actually do anything to me in front of everyone here. Caroline thought.
Beside her, Anna chirped excitedly, “Oh wow, Caroline! The CEO himself is interviewing you! This could be your big break!”
Caroline was speechless. Anna’s way too clueless! If only she knew that I have already been chewed up and spit out by this man.
In the interview room.
The other interviewers immediately stood when David entered. “Mr. David!” They all welcomed him with
respect.
David took his seat at the head of the table.
Caroline followed him into the room, she was fully aware that what David did earlier to the supervisor had nothing to do with her.
That was all about protecting his pride.
David was a man of contradictions, arrogant, controlling, and deeply territorial. No matter how much he disliked her, he wouldn’t let anyone else walk all over her.
If anyone was going to crush her, it would be him, and him alone!
And now, he was getting ready to do just that.
David glanced at her application and then leaned back lazily in his chair. “You’re applying for the position of formulation specialist?”
“Yes.”
“You need this job badly?”
“Yes.”
He smirked as he flipped the pages in her file. “But you lack experience and don’t meet our requirements. You don’t even qualify for the basics.”
“I believe that what matters most in a job is a person’s capabilities and not their educational background.” Carolie retorted calmly, “As for experience, everyone has to start somewhere, I’ve excelled in my studies and received high praise during my internships. “Hah,” David sneered. “Not qualified means not qualified. Stop making excuses for yourself.”
Caroline tried to hold back but ultimately failed. She shot up from her seat and announced, “Fine. I’m done here. I don’t need this job!”
Who cares, anyway? This stupid job isn’t worth the headache, if not for Anna’s efforts, I wouldn’t have bothered to come in the first place. It’s not like this is the only company in the city. My hands and feet are still intact, I can easily find another job!
She barely made two steps toward the door when David spoke up, “So, you don’t want the job?”
“Nope!”
“What if I’insist that you take it?” He asked, “What then? Hmm?”
Caroline’s jaw tightened.
So he’s toying with me!
When she wanted the job, he nitpicked her qualifications. Now that she was walking away, he insisted on hiring her.
David clearly lived to contradict her at every turn.
Caroline spun around to face him and then rejected him again by deliberately enunciating each word slowly. “Mr. David, even if you offered me the highest salary in the world… I. Would. Never. Accept.”
With that, she stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind her with a loud bang.
All the other members of the interview panel were stunned. Who in their right mind would dare slam a door in front of Mr. David?
However, David still maintained his poker face.
“William,” he called.
“Spread the word, any company that dares hire Caroline is against me.”
