Boris stepped forward to greet him. “Mr. Ellison, what a surprise! What brings you here?”
As he spoke, his eyes darted around, searching for Caroline.
But she was nowhere to be found: Could she have run off the moment she saw David?

Caroline had specifically asked him if David would be attending, and Boris had sworn up and down that David wouldn’t come.

David withdrew his gaze indifferently.
While others had to search for Caroline, he had spotted her the moment he walked in.
She was wearing a long dress, with makeup that made her look strikingly different from her usual self. Tonight, she was breathtaking.

She was speaking with Anna, her head tilted slightly as they chatted. Then, she suddenly smiled, blinking playfully–her expression was bright and lively.
It was a smile David had never seen on her face before.
For a split second, he nearly lost himself.
“Mr. Ellison? Mr. Ellison?” Boris called, snapping him back to reality. “Your sudden appearance really caught me off guard.”
David shot him a glance. “Drop the act.”
Beside him, Elizabeth clung to David’s arm, standing intimately close. She leaned her head against his shoulder. “Mr. Boris, I just wanted to join in on the fun, so I begged Mr. Ellison to bring me along. I hope we’re not causing any trouble?”
Boris cleared his throat. “Not at all.”
But deep down, he knew this was definitely trouble–for Caroline.
Elizabeth smiled. “That’s good to hear, Mr. Boris. You go ahead and take care of your business. I’ll just walk around and enjoy the evening. I’ve been cooped up in the hospital for so long, I felt like I was going to rot. Mr. Ellison was sweet enough to bring me out for some fresh air.”

Boris forced a smile. “Then I won’t keep you. This is just a small gathering for the department–an excuse for everyone to celebrate.”
“I heard the celebration is for ‘Caroz‘ smashing sales records, far exceeding expectations. It’s a huge success,” Elizabeth said deliberately. “And my sister is the lead formulator of the product, right? That’s quite the accomplishment.”
“That’s right. Caroline is the chief formulator. She developed affordable yet effective skincare, which made “Caroz” an instant hit with consumers.”
Elizabeth looked around. “Then where is she? Shouldn’t she, the biggest contributor, be here?”
Boris hesitated. “Uh… not sure. She’ll be here when we pop the champagne.”
There was no way he was letting Caroline and Elizabeth run into each other. If those two got into a fight, the whole venue might go up in flames.
And what the heck is David thinking, bringing Elizabeth here? What is going on?
Boris distinctly remembered David admitting that he loved Caroline.
Since Elizabeth was present, Boris couldn’t ask outright.
Then Elizabeth suddenly said, “No, I have to find Caroline and properly thank her for everything she’s done for the company. She’s worked so hard–1, as her little sister, feel for her.”
Boris’s gut told him this was bad news, but he couldn’t outright stop Elizabeth. Instead, he threw David a pleading look.
