“Stop using the baby as a shield,” Caroline said lightly. “Do you really think carrying the Ellison bloodline guarantees you everything?”
“Of course!”
Caroline suddenly turned around, flashing a smile as she raised her phone and pointed it at Elizabeth. “Go ahead, say that again.”
Elizabeth tensed instantly. “What are you doing?”
“Recording.” Caroline replied. “It’s already live. Go on, look into the camera and proudly declare that you’re carrying David’s child. Say it loud and clear.”
Elizabeth didn’t know what Caroline was up to, but she immediately shut her mouth.
“What’s wrong? You had plenty to say to me, but now that there’s a camera, you’re scared? Turning into a coward?”
“Turn it off!”
Elizabeth lunged forward, trying to snatch the phone from Caroline’s hand.
But Caroline wasn’t about to let her succeed. She dodged effortlessly, moving with ease.
Elizabeth, on the other hand, wasn’t nearly as agile. She was wearing high heels and a floor–length dress- completely impractical.
That outfit was made for standing under spotlights, smiling, waving, and walking gracefully in small steps.
So when she tried to grab the phone, the tip of her shoe caught on the hem of her dress. The fabric pulled tight, nearly exposing her chest.
She quickly reached up to cover herself, but the sudden motion threw her off balance. She stumbled, unable to steady herself.
“Aah–1”
Caroline didn’t move to catch her.
First, because she was pregnant herself.
Second, because Elizabeth deserved it.
A pregnant woman wearing sky–high heels just for vanity’s sake? Elizabeth clearly doesn’t care about the baby at all. Every pregnant woman knew flat shoes are a must. That is basic common sense!
But then, Caroline had a thought–what if Elizabeth really did fall… and lost the baby? That would be trouble.
Would David blame her? Would he demand she pay for it with her own child?
Maybe she should help.

His long arms shot forward, catching Elizabeth before she hit the ground. One arm wrapped securely. around her waist while the other tugged her dress up to keep her covered.
“Mr. Ellison…..”
The moment she saw him, Elizabeth transformed into a delicate, helpless damsel. Gone was the arrogant, sharp–tongued woman from before.
“Thank goodness you came! If I had fallen, I wouldn’t have cared about getting hurt, but if something happened to the baby… how could I ever face you?”
She sniffled, tears brimming in her eyes. “That was terrifying, Mr. Ellison. Thank god you were here.”
David’s expression darkened as he lifted his gaze to Caroline.
Up close, he realized….
She was even more beautiful today.
Her skin was flawless, radiant. Her hair fell in soft waves, framing her face perfectly. Her makeup was subtle. yet polished, making her look effortlessly elegant.
She was stunning.
But David quickly pushed those thoughts aside. His expression turned colder, his voice sharp. “Caroline. you’re bullying her again!”
Caroline froze.
That again hit her like a knife straight to the heart.
I am bullying Elizabeth? What a joke. If anything, it was Elizabeth who had been bullying me!
A whole month without seeing him, and the first thing he did was accuse her.
But instead of getting angry, Caroline smiled.
“Yes,” she said, her voice light, her eyes daring. “I’m bullying her. So what? Does it hurt you? Are you here to protect her?”
David’s face darkened.
This woman… she never had anything nice to say!
