Chapter 324 She Took Her Own Life in the Bathtub?
Finished
The lights were still on. There were no shadows moving behind the windows. Is Caroline asleep or not? Does she know I am back? Or is she just pretending, not acknowledging the sound of my car pulling in, acting as if she hadn’t heard a thing?
“Heh…”
into
David strodee Ellison residence, heading straight for the master bedroom. She wanted a peaceful life on her own? No way I am going to let that happen.
His heavy footsteps echoed through the house as he climbed the stairs.
He made no effort to be quiet. When he pushed open the bedroom door, it was with deliberate force, as if announcing to the entire world that he had returned.
But inside, the room remained silent. No sign of Caroline.
What game is she playing now?
“Caroline”
David stood at the doorway, his deep voice calling out her name.
No response.
His brows furrowed as he stepped inside. The bed was empty, scattered with a few everyday items, but she was nowhere in sight.
Where did she go? Did she hear me come back and deliberately hide from me? So that’s how she wanted to play it.
“Caroline!”
David kicked open the doors to the walk–in closet, then the dressing room. Still, she was nowhere to be found.
That left only one place.
His expression darkened as he strode toward the bathroom and shoved the door open.
Inside, Caroline lay motionless in the bathtub, her head tilted to the side, eyes closed.
But what shocked David the most-
The water in the tub was deep red.
Bright. Striking.
His heart skipped several beats. What… what the heck was going on? Why is the water red? Why isn’t she moving? Why isn’t she answering me?
A terrifying thought slammed into his mind.
His head buzzed, a deafening roar drowning out all reason.
Chapter 324 She Took Her Own Life in the Bathtub?
David’s tall frame swayed violently, his face draining of all color. His mind blanked.
If Caroline was dead–if she was really gone-
He couldn’t even finish the thought. How am I supposed to live without her? Have I… truly lost her forever?
“Caroline! Caroline, wake up! Wake up!”
Finished
All reason abandoned him. In an instant, he lunged forward, falling to his knees beside the tub, his hands trembling uncontrollably.
He wanted to touch her, but he was afraid to.
In that moment, he felt the agony of losing the one he loved most.
It was soul–crushing.
Regret tore through him like a blade. Why couldn’t I have treated her better? Why did I torment her, humiliate her? And now… now what? If Caroline was gone, what was the point of my existence?
From now on, he had no one to love, no one who could stir his emotions.
He was nothing but a hollow shell.
“Caroline…” David’s hands trembled as he lifted her from the tub, holding her as if she were the most precious thing in the world. “You can’t die. Not without my permission. You hear me? You can’t die!”
He stripped off his jacket and wrapped it around her.
Pressing his lips to her forehead, his eyes squeezed shut, and a single tear slipped down his cheek.
It landed on her eyelashes.
Her eyelids fluttered. But lost in his grief, David didn’t notice.
