Chapter 331 Did I Say I Was Leaving Tonight?
David pondered. Had she heard it all?
His heartfelt confession, his solemn promise–did she know?
Caroline shook her head. “I didn’t hear anything.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
David stared at her intently, his gaze shifting through countless emotions.
Caroline was nervous, but she forced herself to remain calm.
Just play dumb. Play dumb. She kept repeating to herself.
Because those words, his promises–meant nothing.
Even if she confronted David right now and asked whether he still intended to let her go, he would deny it without hesitation.
David’s promises only held weight when he thought she was dead.
Now that she was standing here, alive and well… those words were nothing more than empty air. She could listen, but she absolutely couldn’t take them to heart.
She would never die. For the sake of her child, she had to live. She was an orphan–she would never allow her child to suffer the same fate.
Suddenly, David curved his lips into a smirk and leaned in close to her ear. His voice was low and tempting. “Caroline, if you did hear me… everything I said will come true.”
Her heart trembled.
She had to admit–the temptation was overwhelming.
But after a brief moment of excitement, she forced herself to remain calm. “Well, I didn’t hear anything. So even if I wanted to, I couldn’t make something up.”
She wouldn’t fall for his tricks.
He was clearly trying to lure her in, waiting for her to take the bait. The moment she admitted she had heard him, he would find every possible way to torment her.
David was proud, arrogant, and untouchable. There was no way he would allow her to witness his vulnerability, his helplessness… his tears.
Yet, he kept baiting her. “Then try imagining it. If I thought you were dead, what do you think I would have said?”
“I can’t imagine it. My brain doesn’t work that way.”

But Caroline wouldn’t fall for it. She stuck to her story and refused to budge.
Finished
David let out a soft chuckle. “You’re smart when you should be dumb, and dumb when you should be smart.” Then, he stepped back and turned toward the door. “Caroline, get rid of all your rose essential oils.”
After all this chaos, after everything they’d been through-
It turned out to be a false alarm.
David’s emotions were a mess.
He opened the bathroom door, his expression ice–cold “Everyone, out.”
“Mr. Ellison…”
“Did I stutter?”
The head bodyguard immediately responded, “Understood. What about the ambulance?”
David waved a hand dismissively. “Not needed.”
“Yes, sir.”
The bodyguards swiftly left, restoring order to the room. Soon, the master bedroom returned to its usual
state-
Except for the scattered footprints on the floor and the broken table, which served as the only evidence of the chaos that had just unfolded.
The Ellison residence was once again calm, as if nothing had ever happened.
Caroline changed into her pajamas and returned to the bedroom, only to find that David was still there.
Why hasn’t he left yet? Is he planning to stay here tonight?
For the past month, he had never spent the night. He would take what he needed and leave without even looking at her.
If he thought that would make her feel miserable, he was wrong.
In fact…
She had been delighted.
At first, she did feel a little lonely. But after it happened enough times, she got used to it.
She and David were from two completely different worlds. There was no need to force anything between them.
After a moment of thought, she asked, “Do you still have something to do? It’s late. Elizabeth is probably still waiting for you.”
David turned to her, his voice calm yet firm.
“Did I say I was leaving tonight?”
