else here just you and me. If you want to visit Elizabeth and drag me along as a third wheel to watch you two act all ovey–dovey and make me uncomfortable, you could’ve just said so. No need to beat around the bush or get all passive–aggressive.”
Just hearing it made her sick.
The relationship was so fake, so hypocritical.
“I meant to be passive–aggressive.” David replied. “Glad you picked up on it.”
Caroline went quiet.
Disgusting!
When they arrived at the hospital room, the moment the door swung open, Elizabeth’s delicate voice rang
out.
“Mr. Ellison, you’re finally here. I was so scared…”
Too much. Caroline couldn’t help but rub her arms to shake off the goosebumps.
Elizabeth, looking sweet and fragile, immediately started clinging to David, insisting he stay with her for the night.
But…
The moment Elizabeth spotted Caroline behind him, she froze.
“Why are you here?” The words slipped out before she could stop them.
“Yep, I’m here.” Caroline shrugged. “Sorry to disappoint but I didn’t want to come. I was forced.”
With that, she plopped down on the sofa, spread out her hands, and said, “You two go ahead and talk. Just pretend I don’t exist.”
David’s goal was obvious–he wanted to rub it in, make her watch him dote on Elizabeth.
Fine. I’d watch.
She’d sit right here, watch from up close, study every detail–heck, she almost wanted to grab some snacks and drink while watching.
Elizabeth had no idea wh
was going on. Everything has been fine, so why had Mr. Ellison brought her here?

Elizabeth replied, “I don’t know either. The doctor ran some tests, and the baby is fine. He said it might be because I’ve been stressed, depressed, staying up late, and not getting enough sleep. I need to stay in the hospital and rest until everything stabilizes.”
“Then rest properly.”
David’s response was indifferent g
up late.
no concern about why she was stressed or why she was staying
It was just a standard, scripted kind of concern–nothing real about it.
Elizabeth added, “Mr. Ellison, I might have to stay in the hospital for the entire first trimester. These first three months are crucial. I can’t afford any mistakes.”
“Then stay.” David’s tone was flat. “You can stay until you give birth if needed.”
“But it’s so boring…”
“I’ll make more time to be with you.”
Elizabeth leaned into his arms. “You’ll be running back and forth between the company and the hospital every day. Won’t that be exhausting?”
“It won’t.” David replied. “Just focus on taking care of the baby.”
He resisted the urge to push Elizabeth away.
Because Caroline was watching.
Normally, he would never let Elizabeth cling to him like this.
He didn’t like it. He wasn’t used to it.
But now… he had to keep up the act.
David casually glanced to the side, eyes landing on Caroline, wanting to see her reaction.
What he wanted to see was a look of sadness, a hint of pain in her eyes–she should be heartbroken watching her husband holding another woman.
Instead…
Caroline was smiling.
She looked like she was holding back laughter!
She could still laugh? What the heck is so funny? Elizabeth followed David’s gaze and saw Caroline’s amused expression.
