Chapter 35 Morning Sickness
Caroline gritted her teeth. “I’ve never met anyone as unreasonable as you. So, you can do whatever you want, but I’m not allowed even the slightest freedom, huh?”
“Do you have the means to defy me?”
“No, I don’t. That’s why I won’t fight you, but I can stay out of your way,” Caroline said. “Are you divorcing me or not? I’ll leave with nothing. I don’t want a single cent from you.”
He thought his wealth and power made him untouchable?
She didn’t care!
David’s grip on her chin tightened. “You seem pretty confident after meeting Nash, huh?”
“My confidence comes from knowing I can stand on my own two feet and survive in this world.”
“No company will hire you,” David sneered. “Stop wasting your time.”
Caroline had already guessed as much. Of course, he wouldn’t let her find a job so easily.
I left Ellison Group, and you immediately blacklisted me, didn’t you?” Caroline stared at him. “David, you’re so petty. What did I ever do to you to deserve this kind of treatment?”
He leaned in closer, his breath brushing against her face. “I just enjoy toying with you.”

is a complete psycho! Caroline said nothing, even as her chin throbbed in pain. She clenched her jaw and endured it.
David’s nose was less than an inch from hers.
“Beg me,” he said. “Maybe I’ll consider letting you go.”
From the start, David had only ever wanted Caroline to bow her head, admit she was wrong, and submit to him. But her stubbornness knew no bounds, and she never uttered a single word of concession.
Locked in a dark room, nearly breaking her hand, blacklisted across the city… Caroline had never once begged him, which frustrated him to no end.
She’d rather seek help from Nash than turn to him.
Caroline lifted her head and met his dark gaze. “I’d rather beg for food on the streets or dig through trash than ask you for anything!”
The tension in the room reached a freezing point.
“You won’t beg me, but you’ll beg Nash?” David’s lips curled into a thin line. “Do you really think he’d risk going against me for you?”
“He would!”
David’s icy glare could have cut through steel. Caroline’s heart raced with guilt. Deep down, she knew her worth. Nash had once given her up for a family–arranged marriage. Now, he’d likely choose to appease

“You think too highly of yourself. Nash already has a fiancée. What do you think you are?”
David released her with a dismissive shove, leaning back on the couch. He grabbed a lighter, lighting a cigarette with practiced ease. Smoke curled around him, giving his sharp features an ethereal quality.
He smoked in silence, toying with the lighter, his demeanor indifferent and aloof.
“His fiancée doesn’t change the fact that he loves me,” Caroline said. “He chased me for four years. I’m his unattainable love.”
She added sarcastically, “They say a man’s heart always has room for more than one woman. There’s always an unattainable love and a bittersweet–muse etched into his soul.”
David flicked the ash from his cigarette. “Do you always have to be so shameless?”
“That’s on you.”
“You haven’t seen what I’m truly capable of, Caroline,” David said coldly.
If he truly unleashed his full power, she wouldn’t survive.
He wanted to break her slowly, watching her struggle and attempt to save herself. To him, it was… entertaining.
Caroline stared at his face, the longer she looked, the more nauseated she felt. She couldn’t stand it
anymore.
Her stomach churned violently.
“Ugh…”
