She was pathetic. She couldn’t even land a single slap on him–he caught her wrist effortlessly, completely overpowering her.
“Mr. Ellison!” Elizabeth appeared, rushing over in a flurry. “What’s going on? From where I was standing, it looked like Caroline was trying to hit you.” She gasped, then let out a huff. “Does she really think she can act so recklessly just because Ms. Harper is on her side? Does she think she can do whatever she wants without consequences?”
Now that Harper was gone, Elizabeth finally dropped the act. The mask of politeness vanished, and she let her true arrogance show.
The pretense was over. Everything she had endured earlier–she planned to take it all out on Caroline now,
She already knew Harper had left, but she still made a show of glancing around. “Ms. Harper is really gone, isn’t she?” Then, she turned to David with a pained look. “Mr. Ellison, this isn’t fair… Ms. Harper completely looks down on me. Every word she speaks is filled with disdain. But I’m the one carrying her precious grandson! And Caroline? She’s pregnant with a child of unknown parentage, yet she gets all of Ms. Harper’s love and favoritism. Tell me, Mr. Ellison, does that seem fair to you? If she weren’t an elder, I would have spoken up for myself! I already wasn’t feeling well–my stomach had been aching, and I just wanted to take a short walk to clear my head. But instead? I was cast aside by Ms. Harper and Caroline together. I… I…”
Tears welled up in her eyes as she let them fall dramatically.
“Mr. Ellison, when will I finally get to stand by your side openly? When will I be able to tell the world that I’m your woman and that we’re expecting a child together?” She leaned into David’s chest, crying softly. “I can endure any hardship for you, Mr. Ellison. For you, for our baby, I’m willing to sacrifice everything. But tonight… tonight, I feel so wronged.”
David was already irritated, and her weeping only grated on his nerves.
David was already in a foul mood, and her endless sobbing only added to his frustration. He had no intention of consoling her–his expression remained cold and indifferent.
Elizabeth’s pregnancy had never mattered to him. He had only let her keep the baby to spite Caroline.
So her complaints? They meant nothing to him.
“That’s enough,” David said curtly. “Go back to your room.”
Elizabeth’s expression froze. “Mr. Ellison…”
་
“What do you want me to do?” he asked impatiently. “Are you expecting me to go against my mother for you?”
“I… No… Fine.”
Elizabeth had no choice but to back down. But as she turned to leave, she shot a glare at Caroline.
“You must be feeling smug,” she hissed. “With Ms. Harper shielding you, even Mr. Ellison can’t touch you!”
Caroline suddenly curled her lips into a smirk. “You know, I just realized… you’re actually quite pathetic.”
Elizabeth’s face twisted. “What did you just say? I’m the pathetic one?”

“You suffered all this humiliation, ran crying to David for comfort, and he doesn’t care. He doesn’t even try to understand you,” Caroline said, her tone flat. “Doesn’t that make you feel pathetic? Isn’t that sad? You gave up your pride, your good name, and became his mistress. You’re carrying his child, yet look at how he treats you–has he ever genuinely cared for you? Even for a moment?”
Caroline used to believe that David adored Elizabeth–that she was his favorite.
Then, David claimed that Caroline was the one he truly loved.
And now, she finally saw the truth.
David’s love was empty. Shallow. Self–centered.
It wasn’t until this moment that she finally realized–David’s love was cold, distant, and utterly shallow.
Whether it was her or Elizabeth, the person he loved the most had always been himself.
“You… stop trying to drive a wedge between us!” Elizabeth shot back. “Mr. Ellison treats me very well! The second he found out about my condition, he came straight to the hospital. He checks on me every day, makes sure I’m okay–what do you know?”
