Tears rolled down Elizabeth’s cheeks as she lifted her head. “Why am I the one being treated unfairly? Ms. Harper has always wanted a grandson, and I’m the one giving her one! She should be looking out for me and valuing me–not Caroline! Caroline doesn’t deserve her approval! She betrayed you; she betrayed the Ellison family! If Ms. Harper knew the truth…”
“Enough!” David’s sharp tone cut her off.
He knew exactly what she was getting at.
But he had his own plans.
Elizabeth, for once, didn’t fall silent. Instead, she pressed on. “Mr. Ellison, I’m only thinking about our future–about our child’s future. He’s your son–shouldn’t you be making plans for him? Are you really willing to let him be born as an illegitimate child, denied his rightful place in the Ellison family? I’ve accepted being the woman you hide away, but I won’t let our child endure the same shame. I refuse to let our child live that way. I won’t allow him to grow up being mocked and treated as an outsider. But look at Caroline! She’s carrying another man’s child, yet she’s the one Ms. Harper treasures! Meanwhile, I’m the one being cast aside!”
David’s expression remained unreadable. “I’ll take care of it. You don’t need to worry.”
“How?” Elizabeth asked, pressing for answers. “Are you finally going to take me to the Ellison estate and officially acknowledge me and our child?”
“You’ll know when the time comes. But I would never let my child be mistreated.”
Elizabeth felt a little relieved but still uneasy.
What exactly was David planning?
“Mr. Ellison, could you at least talk to me about it? I’d like to know how you’re planning things.” Elizabeth brushed away her tears. “As his mother, I want to know if there’s anything I can do for him. As his mother, I should have a say.”
“Your only job is to focus on your pregnancy and take care of yourself.”
David wasn’t going to reveal anything more.
Because… he couldn’t let Elizabeth know just yet.
His plan was already set in motion.
Caroline’s baby would be taken away.
And Elizabeth’s baby… would be handed over to Caroline.

“Fine…” she muttered reluctantly, nodding. “As long as my child is born healthy and acknowledged by the Ellison family, I’ll be satisfied. I won’t ask for anything more.”
“Don’t worry. My child will have everything they deserve.”
Hearing those words, Elizabeth finally let go of her concerns.
As long as her child’s future was guaranteed, she knew her own standing would be secure as well.
She understood that her child’s recognition meant her own. After all, she understood better than anyone–a mother’s status depended entirely on her child’s place in the family.
