Chapter 366 You Lied Twice
Yet, time and time again, he forgave her and indulged her.
Again and again, David found himself making exceptions for her.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t understand.” Caroline said, casually rubbing in her hand cream before standing and walking toward the bed. “It’s two in the morning. Are we sleeping or arguing? Because I’m really tired.”
David remained distant, his expression unreadable. He didn’t even glance at her.
Caroline pulled back the covers and climbed into bed, but just as she was about to lie down, his voice cut through the silence.
“That wasn’t a random stranger, Caroline. That was Nash’s driver.”
His tone was firm, leaving no room for doubt.
Her heart pounded.
How did David know? How could he possibly be sure? Could he really be that perceptive? Or… did he plant a listening device on me?
The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. He must have bugged me!
“Surprised?” David’s voice was laced with amusement, as if he could see right through her. “Wondering if I’ve bugged you? Or maybe you think I’ve had someone following you this whole time? Is that the only way you can explain how I know exactly what you’re up to?”
Caroline stayed silent.
The safest move right now was saying nothing. She had to be careful. Extremely careful.
She wasn’t sure whether to act unbothered and lie down or stay sitting up.
Her entire body tensed.
David leaned forward. “Caroline, I don’t need shady tricks to keep tabs on you. Before we got in the car, you were checking yourself, weren’t you? Searching for a bug?”
She glanced at him but didn’t respond.
“I didn’t plant anything,” he continued. “You can stop worrying.”
Stop worrying? Caroline let out a bitter laugh.
How could she possibly relax? There was no such thing as peace around David.
As long as she stayed by David’s side, she felt like she was walking on a tightrope–never knowing when she’d lose her balance and come crashing down.
David reached out, lifting her chin with two fingers. His gaze darkened.
“I asked

twice,” he said, voice dangerously low. “And both times, you lied.” His fingers tightened slightly.

He clenched his jaw, his grip tightening ever so slowly. What was I supposed to do with her?

He was furious. He was obsessed. He wanted to throw her away, but he couldn’t let go. He hated her, yet he loved her.
Caroline is driving me insane. Since when have I ever had to want something I couldn’t have? Anything I desire should belong to me.
“Yes, it was Nash’s driver,” Caroline admitted. “How did you know?”
At this point, lying was pointless.
She had no choice but to come clean.
“I recognize his driver,” David said coldly, “Caroline, do you really think you’re that clever? Or do you think I’m too stupid to see through something so obvious?”
“So you knew all along but still asked me-”
“I wanted to see if you’d lie.” His grip on her chin tightened. “And you did. Twice. You only admitted the truth after I exposed you.”
Caroline forced herself to remain calm, careful not to provoke him.
She couldn’t let this escalate–especially since Nash was involved. She couldn’t drag him into this.
“I just didn’t think it was worth mentioning,” she said, her voice laced with exasperation. “I didn’t want to cause unnecessary misunderstandings.” She sighed. “And look–here we are, with you misunderstanding anyway.”
“Am I the one misunderstanding?”
Caroline nodded. “Yes. He may be Nash’s driver, but he really did just ask me for directions. We spoke for barely a minute before he left, and you happened to walk out of the hospital and see him. That’s all there is to it, David.”
