Chapter 368 You’re Still Lying to Me!
This was what unsettled him.
Nash still loved Caroline. And as long as that love remained, it was a constant threat.
Who knew what Nash might do if his feelings reached a breaking point?

David inched even closer, pressing her against the headboard, trapping her between his body and the bed. Her back pressed against the wooden frame while his overwhelming presence closed in on her.
At that exact moment, her nightgown strap slid down her shoulder, brushing against her arm.
This is bad. Caroline bit her lip. Why now? Of all times, why does the strap have to slip? It’s late. We’re alone. If David loses control… what can I do?
She didn’t dare adjust it, didn’t even twitch. She remained perfectly still.
Because right now, David felt dangerous–like a predator ready to strike.
“He loves me—what am I supposed to do about that?” Caroline kept her voice gentle, choosing to soothe rather than provoke. “I don’t love him anymore. I promise I’ll never have anything to do with Nash again. Isn’t that enough?”
A woman’s greatest weapon was gentleness.
Caroline had come to understand that all too well. She had learned the hard way that pushing David only left her bruised.
Sure enough, some of the tension left his body, though his expression remained hard.
“Caroline,” his voice was low, controlled. “Tell me what the driver said. Be honest, and I’ll drop this.”
“He was just asking for directions.”
“Caroline!”
“That’s all.” She kept her tone steady. “Out of politeness, he asked how I was doing and why I was out so late. I gave a casual answer. That’s it.”
There was no way she would tell him the truth.
If David knew Nash was investigating the child’s father…
He would lose it.
This wasn’t just about Nash–it was about her baby. She had no choice but to lie.
David’s eyes darkened, bloodshot with frustration. “You’re still lying… Even now, you’re lying to me!”
Nash had clearly sent her a message. And it had to be something important.
David needed to know what Nash was planning–what he intended to do.
Caroline belonged to him. Nash had no right to interfere.

“Caroline, listen to me carefully.” His nose brushed against hers, his voice dangerously low. “Even if Nash risks everything–his fortune, the Newton family, the Woods family–throws it all away, he still won’t be a match for me. You belong to me. He needs to get that through his head. If the message he sent was meant to help you escape me, or worse, if it was about that bastard child you’re carrying… then let me make one thing clear whatever you two are planning, it won’t change a thing. Caroline, if you want your child to be safe, if you want Nash to keep his future intact, then you’d better stay right where you are. Don’t even think about anything else.”
She met his gaze and said evenly, “I hear you.”
Her indifference made his blood boil.
It felt like swinging at thin air–nothing to grab onto, nothing to land a hit on.
Here he was, overwhelmed by jealousy, consumed by his feelings for her. And her?
Cool, detached, as if none of it mattered.
