Chapter 10
The day Hedy was discharged, Lance brought her back to his marital home.
After parking, Hedy refused to get out, looking anxiously at Lance.
“Maybe this isn’t a good idea,” she murmured. “You and your wife live here… you’ll probably, y’know, want your privacy. I don’t wanna get in the way…”
Lance immediately knew what she was worried about.
He laughed softly and lifted her into his arms. “In the way? You’re the person closest to me.”
“Besides, Anthea’s moved to Sienna Villa. You can rest here without any distractions.”
Hedy was surprised–she’d only made an offhand comment, never expecting Lance would actually send Anthea away.
Seeing the undisguised love in his eyes, Hedy felt increasingly smug.
Anthea, even if you’re his wife, you still can’t compete with me.
Hedy managed to hide her grin and feigned concern: “Won’t she be mad?”
Mad?
Lance paused mid–step. Anthea had always been gentle and understanding, never one to make a
fuss.
Lately, he’d abandoned her several times for Hedy and she never complained.
Even when he asked her to move out, she said nothing–she just quietly packed up and left.
“She won’t mind. Just make yourself at home here.”
Late that night, after Hedy fell into deep sleep, Lance carefully slipped his arm from beneath her neck and quietly left the guest room.
At the hospital, it didn’t feel strange sharing a bed with Hedy. She was his sister, after all. Taking

care of her felt natural.
But in his marital home, he suddenly felt strangely uneasy, which was why he returned to the bedroom he shared with Anthea.

He tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. Every time he closed his eyes, he heard Hedy’s question: “Won’t she be mad?”
He’d answered with such certainty then, but now he wasn’t so sure.
Finally, he reached for his phone and turned it on. Seeing the empty WhatsApp chat and call history with Anthea, Lance froze.
How could this be? He blinked.
Refreshed the chat.
Checked the call log again.
Still nothing.
Sure, he told her not to reach out–but she really didn’t?
Lance placed his phone face–down on the blanket and glanced outside.
The moon had been swallowed by dark clouds. A howling north wind carried fine raindrops, and moisture seeped through the imperfectly closed window, bringing a pervasive chill and extreme
discomfort.
Just like the inexplicable agitation in his heart.
In the days that followed, Lance canceled all work, declined every dinner party and social gathering–he was glued to Hedy’s side.
The shareholders had complained and even reported to Fred.
Lance had expected a scolding from his father, but surprisingly, nothing happened. This struck him as odd. Still, he didn’t dwell on it.

Chapter 10
A few days ago, Hedy had suddenly fallen in love with a pink sapphire necklace
Since it was a private collection piece, Lance had gone to great lengths to acquire it.
Today was the day to pick it up.
The moment Hedy saw the necklace, her whole face lit up. To match this piece, she started Browsing through the collector’s handbag collection.
Lance sat quietly on a sofa in the corner, keeping her company.
With nothing else to do, he pulled out his phone and started checking his emails.
Just then, a WhatsApp message popped up.
