Chapter 17
Lance threw out those words and walked away without a backward glance
Hedy stood frozen, staring after him as his figure disappeared. The hurt in her eyes gradually transformed into hatred and bitter resentment.
Her nails dug so hard into her palm, blood started to drip onto the polished marble floor.
“Antica.
“ANTHEA ORLANDO
Across the room, Anthea was enjoying a pleasant conversation with a socialite when the furious voice rang out behind her.
She turned instinctively to see Hedy storming toward her in stiletto heels, face contorted with rage and hand raised to deliver a slap!
Anthea caught the slap just in time, then tossed the red wine in her glass straight into Hedy’s face.
“Ah!”
SMACK!
A clean slap followed, landing hard across Hedy’s cheek, leaving an angry red welt on her porcelain
skin.
“Hedy, have you completely lost your mind?!”
Anthea had tolerated Hedy for years because of Lance. Now that she no longer loved him, she had no reason to be polite anymore.
Hedy’s carefully styled hair had come half–undone from the slap, loose strands falling across her crazed expression and those venomous eyes.
She stared at Anthea’s composed face for a long moment before viciously wiping the dripping wine from her own.

Chapter 17
“I’ve lost my mind? What about you? Always throwing yourself at Lance like some shammers.
SMACK!
Another slap from Anthea silenced her. “If you can’t control that mouth, try shutting it first
“Let’s get something straight–Lance and I are done. He’s the one stalking me. So if youre grea problem, take it up with him.”
But Hedy wasn’t hearing a word of it. Her mind was consumed by hatred.
When Lance first refused to marry her, she’d wanted to confront Anthea directly. But for once, her mother had stopped her. Told her to tone it down. To act softer.
“Men pity fragile girls,” she’d said. “Let him feel guilty. Let him feel sorry for you.”
Being the obedient daughter she’d always been, Hedy had followed her mother’s advice. But it
hadn’t worked at all.
Lance still refused to give her even a glance, his entire being focused on Anthea!
Hedy had been taken good care in the Rhodes household, even she couldn’t tolerate this kind of
humiliation.
So she’d come to eliminate the “root cause” of her problems!
“You should die in that fire, Anthea!”
Only with Anthea gone could Lance truly belong to her!
With unexpected strength born of rage, she suddenly grabbed Anthea’s arm and tried to throw her down the nearby staircase!
They were standing on an outdoor terrace, where the only exit was a long, steep flight of stone steps.
A fall would mean death or permanent disability.
Anthea fought desperately, but Hedy had been consumed by hatred. Anthea was destabilized by her high heels.
In the next moment, Anthea felt nothing beneath her feet as she began plummeting down the stairs!
Chapter 17
“ANTHEA!”
Lance’s voice tore through the chaos as he ran toward them–st in time to dive forward and grab
her.
THUD!
They both went tumbling down the stairs. Slowly, blood spread beneath them.
“AHHH!”
“Someone call an ambulance!”
The air filled with screams, alarms, and eventually ambulance sirens, all blending into chaos.
But Anthea only felt an overwhelming drowsiness. Then her eyelids drooped
Everything faded into black.
