Chapter 9
At the hospital, Lance rushed straight to the room, only to find Hedy crying
Without hesitation, didn’t hesitate. He rushed over and grabbed her hand, eyes wild with panic.
“Hedy–hey, are you okay?”
Her eyes welled up again the moment she saw his face as she turned her head away. “Why are you even here? Didn’t you want to leave me.”
Lance grew even more anxious, gripping her hand tightly.
“Who told you that? I would never leave you. Never.”
That broke something inside her.
Tears spilled down her face as she suddenly threw herself into his arms.
“You promised you’d come right soon, but you disappeared… I really thought you were done with
me.”
Looking at Hedy’s tear–streaked face as she tried to smile, Lance’s expression filled with concern as he held her, patiently comforting her.
“Even if the whole world rejected you, I won’t.”
Hedy sniffled, finally managing a teary smile as she held up her pinky.
“Really? Then pinky promise me.”
“Of course.”
Lance’s tone was exceptionally tender as he hooked his finger around hers.
In the days that followed, Lance stayed constantly by Hedy’s side.
On nice days, he’d carry her to the garden for walks.

Chapter 9
He even held her in his arms during thunderstorms to help her sleep.
Soon, everyone in the hospital knew about the man in the VIP suite on the top floor who doted excessively on his “wife.”
But some nurses who had seen the earlier news whispered gossip. “Wait wasn’t Mr. Rhodes’s wife
someone else?”
Before she could continue, the head nurse quietly warned her. “Watch your mouth!”
Right at that moment, Lance walked by with Hedy in his arms.
Hedy’s eyes immediately reddened the moment she heard the whisper. She struggled to get down from Lance’s arms and ran back to her room.
“Hedy!”
Terrified she might do something rash, Lance instinctively moved to follow her.
But then, he stopped abruptly and gave everyone in the room an icy glare.
Finally, he turned to the head nurse. “I don’t want to hear irrelevant people talking bullshit around here again. Clear?”
With those words, the nurses collapsed in their chairs, their eyes filled with dread.
They were so screwed…
But Lance paid them no further attention. He was already outside Hedy’s door, knocking repeatedly.
“Hedy, open the door, okay? Let me in.”
Because of the nurse’s comments, Hedy had locked him out and refused to let him in.
“No, brother. We’re siblings after all. It’s not good to be so intimate that people gossip. It’s better if you leave. I can take care of myself.”
Hedy’s muffled voice came through the thick door, making Lance’s heart ache.
“Hedy, come on, don’t say that. We’re not—”

CRASIL
His heart leaped into his throat. He kicked the door open and rushed in. “Hedy!”
Inside, Hedy was sitting dazed on the bed, with a shattered glass cup on the floor beside her.
He rushed forward and grabbed her hands, checking them thoroughly,
Relief washed over him like a tidal wave. “Thank God…. thank God you’re okay..
Back in Lance’s warm embrace, Hedy finally broke down and cried pitifully.
“I don’t know what to do without you…. I can’t do anything on my own…”
Only then did Lance realize what she’d been about to do. He rubbed her back, voice low and steady.
“Then don’t. If you can’t, don’t. I’m here. I’ll take care of everything.”
Hearing this, Hedy finally showed a satisfied smile in his arms.
