Chapter 9
“Daniella!”
“Daniellat”
He shouted her name repeatedly, but no answer came.
His legs gave out beneath him and as he collapsed to the floor, something caught his eye–a small gint of
silver under the coffee table.
Their wedding ring.
The one he had custom–made for her when they first married, the one she had treasured for ten years,
Over the years, through every fight and betrayal, no matter how much he hurt her, she never took it off
For both of them, the ring was not just a symbol of marriage. It was the witness to their beautiful love, the last remaining hope and memory.
But now, the ring had been discarded in a forgotten corner.
And Daniella had also vanished.
Elliott’s heart sank lower and lower, until it hit rock bottom.
He stared blankly at the familiar surroundings but felt that everything was so strange.
Grief and fear.
Surrounded him from all sides.
Several days passed, there was still no sign of Elliott’s grandfather waking up.
The the burden of handling company’s affairs fell squarely on Elliott’s shoulders.
But Elliott’s heart was wholly with Daniella, not on work at all.
In the past, the company’s affairs were handled by his grandfather.
The family’s affairs were taken care of by Daniella.
Elliott had never had to worry about anything. He lived carefreely, enjoying life and indulging in his pleasures.

Elliott couldn’t afford to support a large company.
And he couldn’t bear the burden of a shattered home.
Desperate, Elliott chose to escape.
He drank himself into a stupor every day.
He hugged Daniella’s photo and cried bitterly.
One night, deep in his drunken stupor, the door creaked open.
A slender figure stepped inside.
A familiar scent filled his senses, Elliott’s long–silent heart began to beat wildly.
He hugged the person into his arms tightly, pouring out his longing and love.
Tears welled up in his eyes as he clung to her like a lifeline.
“Daniella, you’re finally back. You don’t know how much I’ve missed you!”
His voice trembled. “Grandfather is seriously ill, the company matters are suffocating me, and when I come home, I can’t find you. I really don’t know what to do anymore.”
His grip tightened around her.

“Please, don’t leave me again.” he pleaded. “I’ll change! No more going out, no more drinking, no more other women. We’ll start over. We’ll have another child and live happily as a family of three!”
Through the haze of alcohol, Elliott spent the night lingering with the person who came, lost in the illusion of comfort.
It wasn’t until the golden rays of morning spilled into the room that he finally saw her face.
It was Joanna.
