Chapter 40
Maurice blinked, still processing what was happening. My daughter? he thought, staring at Quinlyn, who was standing in front of one of the suited men. Pointing at him, she said, “He’s the one who hit the person with the car
The officer immediately wrote down Quinlyn’s statement. He gave her a sharp salute, his expression filled with genuine gratitude.
Maurice opened his mouth, his mind racing for answers. “What exactly is going on here?” he asked, still stunned,
Bennett flashed a quick smile and began explaining. “Lacky for us, Quinlyn spotted the injured man just in time. She hid him and called the police. Then, she worked with us behind the scenes. She’s a smart kid.”
He glanced at Maurice and Tina, his gaze pointed. “I think Quinlyn’s been looking out for you, making sure you’re safe. Don’t hold it against her. We asked for confidentiality
He sensed that Maurice and Tina wouldn’t just criticize Quinlyn. Although he hadn’t interacted with her parents, the scene earlier made it clear how much they looked down on and dismissed Quinlyn.
Both Maurice and Tina felt incredibly awkward, their faces flushed with embarrassment. They could only muster forced smiles and nod in agreement.
At that moment, the boss from DigitalKey Group was finally escorted out of the lounge.
Once the emergency treatment had been taken care of, Bennett stepped forward and shook Edward’s hand. “Thanks for your help. If it weren’t for you, we would’ve lost a key technical talent.”
Edward, who was still riding the adrenaline from earlier, chuckled and replied, “It’s all thanks to my granddaughter. I’m just glad you trusted her. I hope you’ll keep supporting her moving forward.”
Earlier, in the lounge, it was Quinlyn who had reached out to Bennett and come up with the plan. They’d already worked everything out in advance.
Bennett stole a glance at Quinlyn, who was standing behind the wheelchair, a sense of admiration welling up inside him.
Though he had his doubts at first, seeing her handle one crisis after another put his worries to rest. He now believed in her She wasn’t just a kid; she had good intentions.
The only issue was her abilities–they were a little intimidating.
It wasn’t just about him helping her anymore–he owed her for the rewards he was getting now. It almost made him feel guilty.
“Dad, this is insane! If something’s wrong, at least tell me. How can you let Quinlyn, a kid, handle all of this?” Maurice thought he was in charge of the banquet, but he’d been kept completely in the dark. That didn’t sit well with him.
Edward gave him a quick, cold glance before responding. “If you can’t even figure out what’s going on, don’t go blaming your kid. Honestly, just listening to you is embarrassing”
Stung by his dad’s blunt response, Maurice immediately shut up.
Stanley, who was trailing behind, couldn’t hold back a chuckle..
As long as Edward was calling someone out, Stanley didn’t mind being the next target.
At that moment, Tina noticed a ribbon tied around the arm of the man being carried out on a stretcher.
A thought popped into her head. She nudged Harriet and whispered, “If the boss of DigitalKey Group wakes up, he’s

probably going to want to meet the person who saved his life. Harriet, why don’t you go to the hospital with him?
71%
Harriet, now ten and already picking up a few tricks from Tina, immediately recognized this as a goblen opportunity. She nodded, holding back her disgust, and then she stepped forward to grab the man’s hand before following the medical team
They thought they were being quiet about it, but Quinlyn had seen everything. Her eyes followed their movements, but she didn’t read.
Then she looked away. After all, she wasn’t looking for anyone to praise her for saving someone. If people wanted to take credit, so be it.
By now, there were only a few people left at the banquet, and the hall had taken on an eerie quiet.
Feeling a bit bitter that DigitalKey Group’s boss had ruined the party, Maurice didn’t let it show. He forced a smile and said to Edward, Dad, looks like everyone’s gone. Maybe we should just call it a night so you can get some rest.”
He looked the part of a dutiful son, but Edward didn’t seem to care.
“Call it a night? What if the guests come back? We’re gonna introduce Quinlyn to everyone, and there hasn’t even been the opening dance yet!” Edward’s expression darkened. He ordered, Just stay here.”
Tina started to walk over to say something, but Maurice quickly pulled her back. She grumbled under her breath, “A anyone’s coming back. She doesn’t even know how ridiculous she looks.”
She thought if it had been Harriet, maybe one or two people would’ve turned around and come back.
After all, in rich families, everyone’s a peacock, proud and flashy. They might have agreed to help Quinlyn pick out a dress at first, but halfway through, they’d probably get embarrassed and bail.
But since Harriet had found a better place to be, Tina was content to stick around and watch Quinlyn make a fool of herself.
Time passed slowly. Worried that Edward might be uncomfortable sitting for too long. Quinlyn gently suggested he head home first
But Edward wouldn’t hear it.
“Silly girl, today’s your big day. How could I leave?” He patted her on the head with a smile. “I may not get to walk you down. the aisle one day, but at least I’m here with you now.”
Quinlyn looked up at him, their gazes locking. She could clearly see the tears in the corners of his eyes.
He wasn’t looking at her; he was looking past her, lost in thoughts of the real Hailey.
Quinlyn had often heard that when someone missed someone else, they might find comfort in objects or in the people around them. If Edward wanted to channel his feelings for Hailey onto her, Quinlyn was more than willing to accept it.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed from the door.
“I’m here! I’m here! A young guy rushed in, holding a gift box and laughing loudly as he scanned the room. “I knew I’d be
the first!”
A couple more young people came in behind him, all out of breath.
“No way! I didn’t think you’d play dirty! If you hadn’t flagged down a taxi halfway back, I would’ve been the first!” He grumbled, catching his breath.
“First one? What’s the point?” someone replied, shrugging. The real question is whether Quinlyn will like it. If she doesn’t, it doesn’t matter.”

Chapter 40:
“Of course, she’ll like mine! Quinlyn, come check out my pick!” A boy grinned widely, looking proud.
The group made their way toward Quinlyn and set the gift hoses down on the long table. They opened the lids, revealing a dazzling collection of colorful, sparkling dresses.
Standing off to the side. Tina blinked a few times, trying to adjust her eyes to the display.
These weren’t just any dresses. They were from top brands, many of them custom–made with jewels and detailed embroidery. They were absolutely stumming
Just picking these up from the store must
have taken forever.
As the first group returned to the hall, more guests arrived, each holding their own gift boxes.
Claude was a little behind the others, but he stepped forward with Mandy in his arms, smiling, “Quinlyn, this is the dress. Mandy picked out for you. You’ve got to give her some credit. You’re classmates, after all.”
Quinlyn, who was still mesmerized by the dresses in the first row, almost felt dizzy from the sheer number of them. Just she was about to speak, Maurice cut in.
“Mr. James, you’re too humble! Quinlyn is truly lucky to receive a gift from your daughter. Who would turn that down?” Maurice said, his voice full of praise for Claude and Mandy. His eyes sparkled with excitement.
He knew all about Claude’s Horizon Properties–its power and connections. But more than that, he knew just how insanely rich they were.
