Chapter 53
Stanley had always known his parents were snobby, but this time he felt truly heartbroken. “Mom. Quinlyn came to your rescue–didn’t you feel even a bit grateful? No matter how you feel about her, you should remember her kindness”
“Why do you seem indifferent while watching dad put her in a tough spot?” he continued. Surely, a decent person should have some sense of gratitude.
Tina, overwhelmed by his questions, struggled to find the right words and lowered her head, mumbling “But we provide her with food and shelter, and even let her go to school, we haven’t treated her poorly.”
At her words, Stanley let out a sarcastic scoff and said, “Do you really think those are the things she needs? Quinlyn can make in one night what a company makes in a whole month
“She owns a house, and her bank account is way larger than yours. She doesn’t care about the Anderson family’s possessions”
Tina’s eyes widened in shock. She struggled to comprehend this new reality. Remembering Quinlyn’s software sales, she murmured, “Is she that amazing? I’ll try to be a bit kinder to her from now on.
“Spare her that condescending act of maternal kindness. Stanley laughed bitterly, feeling deep disappointment in his
parents,
He stepped past Tina to stand next to Edward, bending down to help him up. That’s enough, Grandpa. Quinlyn is back; let’s spare her from any violent scenes.
He turned to the entrance and waved for Quinlyn. “Come here; don’t be afraid.”
Quinlyn stood there for a moment, stunned and unsure of how to react, but then she slowly walked over. Edward, catching his breath, asked, “Did you go to the hospital for a check–up? Is your neck still hurting?”
Quinlyn suddenly remembered that Maurice had gripped her neck; she had completely forgotten about it. “It doesn’t hurt,” she said, directing her gaze to Maurice on the floor.
Seeing the bandage on his head, she clenched her fists at her sides and murmured to Edward, ‘Grandpa, I’m sorry: 1 shouldn’t have resorted to violence.”
Edward furrowed his brow, sensing something was off, and replied, “You did nothing wrong. Why apologize? Am I trying to teach you so much just for you to be bullied by others?”
Having had a fiery temperament in his youth. Edward felt an instant connection with Quinlyn when they first met. Yet, Quinlyn kept her head down, pressing her lips together before whispering. “But he is different.”
That “he” referred to Maurice. Edward hesitated before realizing what she meant, his voice heavy with emotion. “You let him push you around because he is my son?”
Quinlyn nodded slightly. An unexpected silence fell over the spacious living room. Stanley opened his mouth but felt a lump in his throat, a wave of sadness washing over him.
Edward felt the same way. After a long pause, he reached out with a trembling hand to pat Quinlyn’s head, his eyes growing misty. “I owe you an apology. In my heart, you are family.”
Quinlyn felt the warmth of his hand resting on her head and smiled softly at Edward. Yet, she knew deep down that this sense of family was different from blood relations.
Joseph could no longer watch without intervening: he stepped forward and wrapped an arm around Quinlyn’s shoulders and said. “Edward, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Joseph. Today, I’d like to clarify something”
Stanley sensed what was coming and simply closed his eyes without voicing any objections.

Maurice shuddered and tell silent under the weight of that piercing look
“Well, if it was mistake I wouldn’t want to force her to stay Edward sighed,
If anyone had med to steal his granddaughter away before today, he would have fought fiercely, but the events today had made him realize that it might not be the best choice for Quinlyn to remain there.
“Therefore, I want to take Quinlyn with me today; her room has been prepared, and my parents are eager to welcome her.” Joseph, always decisive, seized the moment.
Der’s have dinner first, then you can leave, Edward said, feeling a pang of reluctance as he wished for one last meal together.
Edward had sent Maurior away, so the table was filled only with Edward, Stanley, Quinlyn, and Joseph. Quinlyn often focused on her mural, but today she ate slowly and appeared to lack an appetite,
Edward and Stanley had also lost their appetites, but to avoid worrying her, they ate and engaged in conversation.
Tve heard the Wilson family has a great reputation; your parents are childhood sweethearts with a strong bond” Edward said, wanting to understand the environment Quinlyn would soon be entering, determined to avoid any future missteps.
If the Wilson family couldn’t be trusted, he would prefer to entrust Quinlyn’s care to some old friends.
“My parents have a solid relationship, and I am their only son, Joseph replied calmly. “Several projects at our company are related to academia; if Quinlyn is interested in furthering her studies, I can help arrange that.”
This prospect excited Edward. “That sounds promising; she is gifted and intelligent, with endless potential. I don’t want her to miss out on any opportunities Edward felt moderately satisfied with his first impression of the Wilson family.
He then turned to Quinlyn and asked, “What about you, Quinlyn? Would you be willing to go to the Wilson family? Or if you prefer to stay-”
He wanted to suggest finding a new place for them to live, completely separating from Maurice and Harriet. At his age, finding a descendant he could truly care for was a rare blessing–one he wished to nurture with the utmost dedication.
