Chapter 78

“What? In a situation like this; how can finishing a mission even be a priority? Survival should come first!” Michael exclaimed, baffled by what the kids were thinking.

But Quinlyn recalled Stanley’s earlier message. He had promised her he would win the championship to prove himself.

‘Is he an idiot?‘ Quinlyn thought to herself.

She pressed her lips together and took the lead, carefully observing the magnetic field changes around them. She noticed that Stanley’s group was moving along the edge of the magnetic field, suggesting they must have some kind of detection equipment.

This discovery relieved the others, feeling a bit more secure knowing there was some brains among them.

But for Quinlyn, worry tightened her expression as she quickened her pace.

Eventually, Michael struggled to keep up with her, and amid his shock, he understood Antonio’s appreciation for talent. A gem like her was definitely worth nurturing.

But just as evening approached, the weather took a turn for the worse. Dark clouds rolled in, and the jungle became pitch black. No matter how skilled they were at outdoor survival, it was tough going in this unfamiliar forest.

Michael suggested they slow down; he was already drenched in sweat. After running in the humid air for nearly two hours, Quinlyn’s small face was beginning to glisten with moisture too.

However, Quinlyn shook her head, saying, “We can’t slow down. The weather changes are caused by the magnetic field. Thunderstorms are coming soon. Without an anti–magnetic device, it’s going to be dangerous.”

She pulled out the anti–magnetic device, and the indicator light flickered faintly. The group’s hearts sank.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, Quinlyn wrapped a simple LED light strip around her waist. With a flick of a switch, her entire figure lit up in vibrant, rainbow colors–both comical and adorable. She had made it from leftover materials.

“I’ll lead the way; just follow me,” Quinlyn declared.

Some protested that it was too dark and wondered how fast she could really go. But just as the words left their lips, she had

already darted a few meters ahead and was picking up speed. If it weren’t for the bright light she wore, she would have appeared just like a ghost in the dark.

Angel was startled and quickly called out, “Catch up with her!” Everyone realized they couldn’t afford to be distracted

anymore and fixed their eyes on Quinlyn’s glowing silhouette as they ran to keep up.

Warren was witnessing Quinlyn’s abilities for the first time. While he had recognized her brilliance in subjects like computer science and physics, he was now blown away by her incredible speed and stamina.

No wonder she had been able to save him from the gun of a professional assassin that day. She was truly his lifesaver.

With Quinlyn blazing a path, they finally made it deeper into the mountains, where they discovered another fabric marker amidst a thicket of brambles.

“Why are there so many markings here? Is it some kind of pattern, or a distress signal?” In a clearing, a group of students found scattered pieces of fabric made from various materials, but they were all jumbled together, lacking any clear direction.

Quinlyn surveyed the area. “They must be out of energy. Their tracking devices aren’t working anymore.”

“So these markings are just illusions they left behind?” Michael frowned, suddenly realizing the truth. “That means they must be nearby.”

Chapter 78

“Right.” Quinlyn nodded and pulled out her night vision goggles. The others quickly did the same, searching for any signs of heat sources in the vicinity.

“Over here!” A shout came from the southeast corner.

Everyone rushed over, and Quinlyn parted the weeds to uncover a group of students sprawled on the ground. Each of them was connected at the wrists with strips of fabric, and the leader among them was Stanley.

“Larry!” Michael and the others hurried to Larry’s side, checking his pulse and heartbeat, relieved to find he was simply unconscious.

Quinlyn and one of the Hill family members helped Stanley sit up. After giving him a few sips of water, they placed an anti- magnetic device in his arms and then pinched his hand to wake him up.

Gradually, without the interference of the magnetic field, the students began to regain consciousness.

As the designated leader, Stanley was particularly drained and took longer to wake up. When he finally opened his eyes, he looked dazed and blinked at Quinlyn. “Am I dreaming?”

Quinlyn glanced at him and, without hesitation, jabbed his hand with a pin. Stanley yelped, suddenly alert.

“Whoa, it really is you! Quinlyn, what are you doing here at our training ground? I still have my mission to complete. You shouldn’t mess around–wait until I win the championship and then I’ll hang out with you,” he said.

Quinlyn smirked. “Does hitting a patient count as assault?”

The Hill family members chimed in, “Not at all! We totally support you hitting him.”

Warren walked over, introduced himself, and explained what had happened. Seeing the sorry state of the students, he apologized, “This is my fault. I’m really sorry, everyone.” He then bowed deeply.

Stanley and the others were taken aback for a moment before they started talking among themselves.

“I knew this wasn’t just an easy level; it’s like hell’s opening!” one of them exclaimed.

“But we’ve made it the farthest. We’re the real deal,” another chimed in.

“Right! When we get back, we have to make sure the principal knows we’re the champions!”

Warren couldn’t help but chuckle at the wealthy kids still enjoying their little victory while looking so disheveled.

“So the magnetic field was an accident. I didn’t know we’d be doing physics,” Stanley scratched his head awkwardly. It wasn’t often he thought things through, and this time he still ended up lost.

The magnetic field detector was a gadget Stanley had insisted on using. Fueled by sheer determination, he had led the group this far.

.Everyone sighed in response. If only this poor kid wasn’t as smart, they wouldn’t have had to run around for so long.

Luckily, they were all at the edge of the weaker magnetic field, so no one seemed to have been physically harmed; they just needed to recover from their exhaustion.

“Quinlyn, it’s getting dark. Shouldn’t we rest for the night before we head out?” Michael suggested.

Though he had said he’d follow Quinlyn’s lead, the Hill family still felt protective over her. After witnessing her capabilities on this trek, they subconsciously looked to her for guidance.

Quinlyn gazed at the flickering lightning in the sky, knowing that moving around in conditions like these was risky. But she shook her head. “We should move out now.”

Upon hearing they would leave, Stanley felt a bit regretful. “According to the map, we’re really close to the target. Are we seriously not going to check it out?”

Just as he finished speaking, Quinlyn grasped his hand. Her little hand was warm, calloused enough to tell she wasn’t soft, but her grip was firm and steady.

“Stanley,” she called him by name again, and under his unimpressed gaze, she continued earnestly, “Even if you don’t win the championship, you’re still the best brother.”

Her standard for ‘best‘ and ‘worst‘ wasn’t about strength. At least, that’s how she saw it.

Stanley froze, her words hitting him hard. He almost cried again and quickly turned away, pretending to wipe sweat off his forehead, but he ended up smearing mud all over his face.
