The atmosphere inside wasn’t good. Families undergoing mediation glanced over, and then turned back to scare their own kids, “See that? If you don’t behave, we’ll sell you off! Would you dare to steal again?”
There was a newlywed couple having a fight. The husband pointed at his wife and said, “See? Even the police recommend not going to the orphanage. You’re already pregnant with my child, so why cause trouble? It was just a slap, at least I’m not selling the baby!”
Amid the surrounding noise, Quinton held Janet’s hand with one and clutched his shirt with the other, looking down as he hesitantly said, “I’m willing to go to a foster home, but can we find one nearer to my mom’s hospital? So I can visit her sometimes.”
Janet looked confused but was thrilled to hear she could be close to Quinton, nodding repeatedly. “Yes, I want to be with Quinton.”
Benedict sighed, having seen this kind of situation too many times, he felt helpless, “Even if he is to be sent to foster care. first they need to prove the guardian can’t take care of themselves or has obvious criminal tendencies.”
“He’s practically selling the child; isn’t that enough?” Stanley complained from the side.
Benedict saw Stanley’s youthful and energetic face, shook his head in resignation, and said, “The deal hasn’t been completed yet, plus the father is also present. This repeat offender could easily deny it in the interrogation room. If you don’t believe me, go have a look.”

As soon as he entered, Bennett had already instructed someone to start the interrogation. With just one phone call, they received the result. The police got no evidence.
The other party claimed they decided on a whim to take the child out with the father and there were no financial transaction records, making it impossible to press charges. Benedict was spot on.
“Damn,” Stanley muttered a curse in anger, and then realized Quinlyn was there and quickly covered her ears. “My mistake, I’ll be careful next time.”
Quinlyn, however, did not respond. She continued to fix her gaze on Tommy, her eyes seemingly unable to let light in, lost in thought. Suddenly, she moved forward, standing beside Tommy, her voice calm. “You hit them.”
Everyone in the room was stunned.
Tommy was taken aback as well, and then scowled at her. “Watch your mouth, kid. Do you have any proof that I hit them? Did they say anything?” He pointed a finger at Quinton and Janet next to him.
Quinton stood in front of Janet, letting Tommy’s nail scratch him, immediately leaving a bleeding mark.
Benedict was about to tell Tommy to calm down, but before he could say anything, Quinlyn stepped forward, grabbed Tommy’s wrist, twisted his arm behind his back, and pushed his head down.
Tommy’s head slammed onto the table, making him wince in pain.
With a blank expression, Quinlyn pinned Tommy down under the astonished gazes in the room.
Her voice was icy cold. “When you crack your knuckles, they get scared. He’s wearing high collars to cover the scars. His mom’s nails had been pulled out before and are just growing back now. You’re the one who hit them.”
She had seen such things. Occasionally, women from outside the village would marry in, but she had never seen them smile.
Some of them died soon after.
When she was young, she had met a pretty woman and imagined that if she had a mother, her mother would be just as
beautiful as the woman.

So, during the warm spring, she had climbed the mountain to pick some flowers to give to the woman. But when she had arrived at their doorstep, she had seen the man of the house, drunk and tapping his fingers rhythmically on the table as he
drank.
It was a meaningless sound, yet the woman, lying on the floor, was twitching and shaking. She was beaten nearly to death, with blood running from her forehead, blooming like flowers on her face, as red as the bouquet Quinlyn had held in her hands.
Red truly suited the woman, but Quinlyn never wanted to give her flowers again. After that day, the woman died. Yet, Quinlyn would always remember those hands keeping the rhythm, like a demon she could never forgive.
Tommy then let out a sharp, miserable scream.
Seeing Tommy’s arm about to be twisted off, Bennett quickly went over to pull Quinlyn away, saying, “Don’t be reckless, Quinlyn, he made a mistake and there are laws to punish him. You can’t just react because he did something wrong.”
Quinlyn froze, took a few steps back, and was held by the three teenagers, finally stopping. She looked at Bennett, a distant expression in her eyes as she asked, “Does the law really work?”
Bennett felt his heart tighten from her look and nodded without hesitation. “It does. I’ll make sure justice is done.”
Stanley also noticed something was off with Quinlyn’s condition and quickly patted her back, saying, “I’ll find them a lawyer, and promise that guy will lose everything. If the law doesn’t work, we’ve got our ways.”
Before Quinlyn could even respond, Quinton began to cry. “Officers, everything she said is true,” Quinton said, standing up.
He opened his collar to reveal shocking scars from burns and whippings on his chest, along with bruises from being crushed by heavy objects. It was hard to imagine how bad it was under his clothes.
“And my mom, she wasn’t sick before. It was because Dad hit her so much and scared her so bad that she lost her mind,” he said through his sobs, immediately covering Janet’s ears after speaking, crying fitfully.
Earlier, Quinton kept quiet because he was afraid it would trigger Janet’s illness. But if there was really a way for the law to protect them, he was willing to give it a shot.
“You damn bastard!” Larry couldn’t hold back any longer and rushed up, grabbing Tommy by the collar and started beating him up.
He was young and skilled, and even with several officers trying, they couldn’t pull him off. In the end, Tommy lay on the ground, face all bruised and bloody, loudly shouting that he was going to file charges against Larry.
“Sue me? Go ask around and see who can actually win a case against me! I could bury you with just my money, you brute,” Larry said as he adjusted his floral shirt.
Then he pulled a stack of cash from his pocket, and threw it in Tommy’s face. Noticing the eager look in Tommy’s eyes, Larry gave his face a hard stomp.
Larry seethed, “You cowardly jerk, you only dare to mess with women and kids. If you know what’s best for you, give up your guardianship rights, or I’ll make sure you’ll have ten fingers today and none tomorrow.”
Tommy was intimidated by Larry’s presence. Larry’s stylish attire and arrogant attitude even at the police station scared Tommy into quickly agreeing. “I’ll end my association with them right away, please, let me go.”
“Then hurry up and get the paperwork done; don’t waste my time.” Larry moved his foot aside, kicked Tommy out, and leisurely walked back to Quinn, boasting. “So, how was it? Pretty cool, right?”
Quinlyn blinked and nodded strongly. “Very cool.”
Larry was satisfied. Nearby, Stanley and Joseph exchanged glances, knowing that Larry definitely jumped in to land the first

punch on purpose.
Bennett sheepishly admitted, rubbing his nose, “Well, we can sort this out quickly ourselves, right, Benedict?”
Benedict was at loss for words.
