Chapter 98
“Ah!” At the moment the gunshot rang out, Yasmine instinctively crouched, covering her head and screamed in terror
Many windows in the once silent neighborhood lit up. “Ugh, what’s with the screaming in the middle of the righe Can’t we get some sleep?” someone yelled, sticking their head out the window.
“You should have stopped her from screaming. She disturbed everyone’s rest, Quinlyn chimed in, her voice youthful and calm, sounding very familiar.
Only then did Yasmine a finally realize she hadn’t been shot. Carefully raising her head to look, she saw the tall figures sprawled on the ground at the end of the alley. Emerging from the darkness was a slender, small figure
“Is that you?” Seeing Quinlyn, Yasmine’s face once again showed disbelief. Especially since Opislyss was holding a gun with a silencer, which made it obvious that she had fired those shots just now,
“I didn’t expect her to scream so much, sorry,” Warren said without any sincerity. In reality, he didn’t want to pa dose o Yasmine back then, afraid he’d become collateral damage.
Quinlyn stared at him, her eyes showing a hint of dissatisfaction. “If you’re using her as bait, you should make sure she’s safe.” This was something she learned in her classes at the base.
Before Warren could say a word, Yasmine interrupted him, “Bait? Warren, what are you talking about, and who is this kide What are you keeping from me?” She couldn’t bear being kept in the dark and started losing her temper again
Quinlyn, worried she would keep disturbing the residents, casually grabbed a clump of weeds from the flowerbed and stuffed them in Yasmine’s mouth.
Warren was taken aback, and then couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
The operation tonight was a collaboration of three groups. They were the bait, the Hill family was providing close–range protection, and Team 901 was the action team.
Quinlyn was the key player throughout the operation, and she had just taken care of the last group of enemies. Now, the bodies at the intersection had been cleared away secretly.
A faint smell of bleach wafted from a distance. Yasmine was tossed to the side, leaving only Quinlyn and Warren staring each other down in the dim street.
Feeling unusually guilty, Warren was the first to back down and managed a weak smile. “If there’s anything you want to ak go ahead.”
Quinlyn slightly pursed her lips. “Why did you change the plan and use her as a decoy?” Originally, she and Warren were supposed to be together, allowing her to protect him and focus their efforts.
But as soon as she entered the venue and saw Yasmine leading the DigitalKey Group, she knew something was wrong.
Warren had other intentions. The most obvious was at the entrance, where he wanted to push Yasmine out to take a bullet
“Isn’t it obvious? It’s like using someone else’s hand to do your dirty work, Warren confessed directly, without holding
at all.
Through his cultured and refined façade, Quinlyn couldn’t see any hint of guilt in Warren. Her eyebrows furrowed even more. “She’s innocent.” The main rule of the base was not to involve innocents, and if necessary, to prioritize protecting the public.
“Quinlyn, you’ve hacked into the DigitalKey system before, you should know what I’m working on with them, right?” Warren suddenly laughed softly, answering her question with another. “She’s on the list too. How could she be seen as innocent?”

Quinlyn was stunned by his words. She glanced at Yasmine on the ground, who was glaring back at her with immense anger in her eyes, unterly confused. “Is this your so–called genius research?
“No, to be exact, she’s a genius‘ offspring Warren shook his head, took out a cigarette and lit it up, slowly starting to smoke. “Intelligent people are rare. The higher–ups need more talent, so what can they do?”
The answer lied in genetic inheritance. Combining the best genes to produce a better next generation. Even though there were defects, there was always the hope for improvement.
Too bad, what they ended up creating is this bipolar disorder thing,” he said, finally pointing at Yasmine on the ground with the cigarette in his hand. His eyes behind the glasses were as emotionless as a still pond.
Yasmine wanted to argue back, but she was frightened, fearing that Warren truly intended to kill her. So she curled up into a shivering ball
Quinlyn had saved Warren the first time they met on the street because of that classified document. It had an official signature and was related to human research.
In truth, to keep up with the fast–evolving society, many countries had explored this field, akin to the past interest in supernatural powers, which led to a wave of fraudsters.
After learning from their mistakes, the research gradually went underground. To keep it hidden, they partnered with bold businessmen like Warren, who weren’t afraid of danger, to continue their experiments in secret.
Yasmine was the result of a union between a highly intelligent couple. She was not the only test subject under observation
either.
“Even though their parents are already in high positions, enjoying endless wealth and luxury, their greed is insatiable and they still want a piece of DigitalKey Group, Warren said after finishing his cigarette, flicking the ash off his sleeve as if brushing away annoying bugs.
He added, “Instead of giving DigitalKey to them, I’d rather entrust the company to you.”
Quinlyn turned her head to look at him.
Warren curved his lips into a charming smile and said, “I’ve given you the remaining 30% of the shares. From now on, you’re the largest shareholder of DigitalKey.
“As for these test subjects, I’m sure the executives will see the truth tonight and proceed with their withdrawal.” With that, he stood up.
Quinlyn was startled. “Where are you going?”
“Abroad, I have some partnerships waiting.” Warren stretched lazily, and when he glanced back at Quinlyn’s innocent face, he wanted to pat her on the head but remembered the smell of smoke on his hand and reluctantly held back.
“A regular life just isn’t for me. Quinlyn, I look forward to seeing you again.” He waved goodbye and this time truly left without looking back.
Quinlyn watched his carefree figure fade into the darkness, always feeling that, one day, she might have to aim a gun at him. She hoped that day wouldn’t come because she didn’t dislike Warren.
Soon, the trainees led Xiomar make their way over. “Quinlyn, thank goodness you’re okay! We were all scared to death.” Xiomar rushed forward, trying to hug Quinlyn, but Larry grabbed the back of his collar and tossed him aside.
Quinlyn quickly hid the gun behind her back and asked the trainees, “Do you have any large sacks?”
Yanis paused for a moment before hesitating. “We don’t have any large sacks, but will plastic bags work?” They had just dealt with some bodies and had some left over.

Quinlyn thought it over and nodded, deciding they’d make do. When the plastic bags were brought over, she handed one to each of Xiomar and the others.
“Quinlyn, what are we doing with these?” Xiomar was still a bit confused.
“Just as we discussed before.” Quinlyn reminded them, pointing at Yasmine by the roadside. “Go ahead and hit her?
Niomar looked around at the people nearby and then at Yasmine. “Wait. Are we really doing this right out in the open?”
In the end, the group of men couldn’t bring themselves to act, so Quinlyn, not wanting the bags to go to waste, went over. put a bag over Yasmine’s head, and started throwing punches.
Yasmine, gagged with grass roots, whimpered from inside the bag, while the group of guys all looked away. pretending not to hear her scream.
