“Really?” Annika’s eyes lit up.“Then I’ll stay and eat with Angel!”
Angelica cheered, “Hooray!”
At the dining table, two children sat together.
Bryce sat across from them, next to Mariela.
“I’m really sorry, Ms. Logan, Bryce said with a smile.“I got so caught up in discussing the case that I lost track of time. Now I’m even staying for dinner.”
He might have sounded apologetic, but inside, he was thrilled.
This was exactly what he wanted.
Mariela smiled gently.“Don’t be silly. It’s just a meal. I should thank you. I haven’t seen Angel this happy in a long time.”
Bryce replied, “Seeing the two of them having so much fun makes me happy, too.”
After the last dish was served, Bryce gave Annika a meaningful look.
Annika smiled sweetly at Mariela and said softly, “Mariela, can I take a photo with Angel?”
“Of course.”
Annika looked at Bryce and said, “Bryce, can you take the photo for us?”
“Sure.” Bryce took out his phone, snapping a picture of Annika and Angelica.
“These dishes look so delicious. I’ll take a photo of them too,” Bryce said, capturing another shot of the table.
In the photo, Mariela’s profile “accidentally” made it into the frame.
Bryce was satisfied.
His lips curled slightly upwards as he put away his phone.
After dinner, Bryce took Annika home.
On the way, Bryce asked Annika, “Did you have fun today, Annika?”
“Yes. I like Angel.”
“You did great today. I promised to get you that doll. I’ll have it delivered to your house
tomorrow,” Bryce said, referring to the photo plan they had discussed earlier.
Annika had happily agreed to ask for a photo in exchange for a limited–edition doll she had been eyeing.
That night, Bryce posted on Instagram.
The caption read: Annika made a new friend today. And I got to crash dinner.
