Chapter 651
On the third night, there was a thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rain. Marie was awakened by the sound of thunder and heard a commotion downstairs.
Marie and Haylee slept in the guest room on the second floor.
The first floor consisted of a living room, kitchen, and storage room.
Marie put on her coat and walked out of the room. When she reached the staircase, she heard the voices of Laura and her husband coming from downstairs.
Hurry up, water is coming in, you pile it higher on that side!”
“Did you turn off the main switch? Don’t let any electricity leak.”
“Close it, close it. Come with me to the kitchen and clean up everything that’s on the floor and put it on the table. Don’t let it get damaged by water.”
Marie walked downstairs and saw that the ground floor lobby had already been flooded.
The couple Laura was busy moving things.
Seeing Marie, Laura hesitated for a moment and said, “Marie, how did you come down?”
Marie asked, “Do you need any help?”
“No need, no need. You go upstairs and rest quickly. It’s just that rainwater got into the house, nothing major.” Because of the fear of electric leakage, the main switch was turned off and the lights couldn’t be turned on. We had to rely on flashlights for illumination.
Marie stood on the stairs, using the light from a flashlight to look at the condition inside the house. Laura carried a box of things while wading through muddy water, which reached up to her calves.

“Five years ago, there was a major flood and this situation occurred as well,” Laura said. “I didn’t expect it to happen again this year. I’m really sorry, Marie, for trapping you here.”
“No problem,” Marie said calmly, “I’ll help you.”
Laura handed over the things in her hand and said, “Just help me put them in the living room on the second floor.” “Okay,” Marie bent down and reached out to catch it.
“Thud.”
Marie’s phone slipped out of the coat pocket and fell into the water.
Laura bent over to pick up her phone, exclaiming “Oh dear.”
