Marie picked up the phone and pressed the lock button on the side, but there was no response.
She long–pressed the lock screen button to turn on the device, but there was still no response.
“How is it? Can it still be used?” Laura asked eagerly.
Marie shook her head.
Laura was in a panic, “What should we do? There is a flood outside now, the roads are all submerged. The delivery logistics have stopped, and the trains and flights have also been suspended. We are trapped inside and can’t go out, and people from outside can’t come in either. We won’t be able to buy a new phone for these few days. You are going to be cut off from the outside world.”
Marie frowned and said, “I could use my friend’s phone to make a call and let my family know I’m safe.” Laura breathed a sigh of relief, “That’s good then. I’m really sorry, Marie. I didn’t expect there to be a flood, trapping you here.”
“It’s okay, the rescue team should have come tomorrow.”
In the morning, Haylee had just woken up when Marie asked her to borrow her phone to make a call. Haylee picked up her phone, only to see that it had one percent battery remaining.
“What’s going on? I charged it before I went to sleep last night,” Haylee frowned.
“Hurry, it’s still working. I’ll make a phone call back home to let them know I’m safe,” Marie said urgently.
“Okay.” Haylee handed over the phone.
Marie found Deandre in the contact list and dialed his number.
Fortunately, Deandre took over.
Without wasting any words, Marie immediately spoke up:“Dad, it’s Marie. My phone fell into the water and I can’t use it. I’m borrowing Haylee’s phone to let you know that I’m safe. Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
“Marie, you…”
Deandre’s words were not finished when suddenly his voice abruptly stopped.
Marie took her phone and looked at it, it was black.
The power went out and the device automatically shut down.
“What’s going on? Wasn’t the electricity charged?” Haylee was completely confused.
Marie said, “No, there was a flood, water flooded into the house. Laura was worried about electrical leakage, so she turned off the main switch last night.”
