Chapter 121
Merel
Juliette opened the exhaust fan, then walked to the window and pulled back the curtains to open it for ventilation.
“Jaime, are you planning to continue being so despondent? What about the Herman Group? The investment from the Shaw Group didn’t come through, and these past few days Eason has been running around, yet not a single company is willing to invest in the Herman Group. After some inquiries, we found out that it’s the pressure from Mariela’s fiancée?
Juliette looked at Jaime and said, “Do you know who Mariela’s fiancée is? He is Lennon, the CEO of the Stark Group, the prince of New York! Their family background is even stronger than the Shaw family. Mr. Stark holds a position in Washington, and when Lennon speaks, no New York company dares to invest in the Herman Group.”
Jaime was like a puppet with no soul, his face expressionless and numb. He did not respond to Juliette’s words.
Juliette said a lot, but when she saw that he didn’t say a word, she got angry, stomped her foot, and turned away.
The room returned to silence.
Jaime dragged his already numb body inside, feeling indifferent.
Having stayed in the darkness for too long, he couldn’t adapt to the glaring sunlight for a moment. He felt dizzy and his tall figure swayed, almost losing his balance.
He stood by the window, staring blankly outside.
The sun was shining brightly.
After a while, he picked up his phone.
Dozens of missed calls, 99+ WhatsApp messages, and he didn’t reply to a single one.
Just at that moment, Mario’s phone rang again.
Jaime thought of something and answered the call.
“Jay, where have you been recently? I can’t find you anywhere,” Mario said on the phone, sounding puzzled.“Did you see the messages I sent you?”
Jaime spoke with a hoarse voice, “Are you still in France now?”
Mario didn’t expect him to ask like this, he hesitated for a moment, and then replied, “Yes, I am here. What’s up? I’m not going back to my country until tomorrow.”
“Help me buy something.”
“Alright, go ahead and send it to me,” Mario paused and asked again, “What’s wrong with your voice? How did it become hoarse like this?” There was a moment of silence.
Jaime spoke softly, “She was getting engaged.”
“Ah?” Mario was puzzled, “Who? Who is getting engaged?”
Jaime looked at the sunlight streaming in, his eyes downcast and his voice very low, “Mariela.”
Mario raised his voice in surprise, “What? Mariela? She’s getting engaged? With whom?”
“It doesn’t matter who she’s with,” Jaime’s voice carried a paranoid madness, “I wouldn’t let her get engaged to that man, she can only be mine! will win her back!”
“Um…” Mario was momentarily speechless, startled by Jaime’s words.
