Chapter 134
Witnessing Jaime being hit, concerned passersby asked, “Are you okay? The perpetrator just left like that, aren’t you going to call the police?
Jaime shook his head, “It’s nothing, just having a conflict with my wife.”
The passerby looked understandingly and said, “Oh, it’s a relationship dispute, huh? Brother, your wife seems a bit violent. Did you go to coun to divorce her?”
Jaime’s lips curled into a smile, “No way, we were getting along well. She was just throwing a tantrum, but I managed to calm her down.” The passersby wore a bewildered expression, with the words “Respect and Blessings” written on their faces.
Vanguard Law Associates.
The pantry was very lively today.
A group of people gathered together, gossiping.
“Do you know? Ms. Haas from the litigation department resigned.”
“Really? This is too sudden. How could you resign when everything was going well?”
“I’m not sure either, it seems like he resigned voluntarily.”
Mariela was not interested in gossip, she passed by expressionlessly and returned to the office. Just a few minutes after sitting down, the office door was suddenly kicked open by someone. “What do you mean, Mariela? Are you daring to sue me?” Braxton roared as he charged over.
Mariela didn’t even look at him, she just stared at the computer screen and worked.“Well, isn’t it normal to sue you for spreading rumors and defamation? What’s so surprising about it?”
Braxton’s eyes were fierce, “What did I spread rumors about? Spreading rumors and slander means fabricating facts and spreading them. But what I said was all true, so does that count as spreading rumors?”
“You tell the judge,” Mariela said with a very calm expression.
“You quickly withdraw the lawsuit! Otherwise, I will make you regret it!” Braxton threatened fiercely.
Spreading rumors and defamation, although being a self–prosecution case, required the parties involved to personally file a lawsuit in court. However, the defendant has violated the criminal law, and once the charges are established, the defendant will face criminal punishment. Braxton was a lawyer, and if he faced criminal punishment, his lawyer’s license would be revoked, and he would no longer be able to take the bar exam or engage in any legal profession. His career would come to an end.
“Why rush? The best part is yet to come,” Mariela smirked and chuckled.
“What do you mean?”
At this moment, another defendant, Macy, also rushed in and said, “Mariela, you actually sued me? I just gossiped about you a little, was it necessary?”
Mariela said in a flat tone, “Here comes another one.”
Macy had just received a text message from the court, stating that a case had been filed against her for spreading false rumors and defaming Mariela. She had become the defendant, and she couldn’t believe it. She clicked on the link and saw the complaint and filing information, leaving her dumbfounded.
