“A girl like you wants to marry into the Herman family? Don’t overestimate yourself.”
Mariela sat down on the single sofa next to Perla.

She did not show any fear, and her gaze towards Perla was
calm.“I don’t want to be a
Herman.”
Perla did not believe it.
She sized Mariela up from head to toe.
This was the girl that her son had been dating for three years.
She had a beautiful and lively appearance, and her temperament was decent. Although she came from an ordinary family, she didn’t have the restrained and inferiority complex of a small–minded person.
Just now at the door, she deliberately said those words to embarrass Mariela, but unexpectedly, she showed no emotions at all. When Mariela saw her, she remained calm and spoke with confidence.
But so what?
She was just a gold digger daydreaming about marrying into a wealthy family. No matter how well she pretended, she could never truly fit in. Perla’s tone was filled with superiority. “You don’t need to pretend in front of me. I am also a woman, and I know exactly what you’re thinking. I know that Jay attracts girls, and it’s not easy for you to meet a wealthy guy like him. He must have spent a lot of money on you, right?” Mariela said, “I don’t care about his money.”
Perla sneered at these words, her eyes gleaming with coldness. “What are you pretending? I’ve seen plenty of girls like you who talk big. If you truly didn’t care, would you have been with Jay?”
Mariela laughed when she heard it.
“Perla, are you saying that your son had nothing appealing about him except for money?”
“You!” Perla was infuriated, her breath becoming slightly rapid. She glared at Mariela and said, “How sharp–tongued you are! Jay praised you for being gentle and sensible, but I think he misjudged you!”
Mariela slowly picked up the teacup and took a sip of tea to moisten her throat.
“Rude, Perla scolded her with a glance, “You don’t even get your senior a cup of tea.”
Mariela forced a smile and said, “I’m sorry, Perla, but there are no extra cups here. You will mind it if I get you a used cup, so, I think it’s better to forget it. After all, you don’t really need the water, right?”
Perla was infuriated.
Where did Jay get such a rude girl?
She took a deep breath and continued, “I came here to tell you that my family is not open to just anyone. You can’t marry Jay. It’s impossible!” Mariela answered, “Hmm.”
“Juliette is the candidate for my daughter–in–law. Not only are her family and our old friends, but she is also Jay’s first love. I advise you to give up on this idea and pack up and leave early to make room for her.”
Mariela curled her lips and recalled overhearing Jaime making a phone call earlier. He said that Herman Group was short of funds, causing many projects to come to a standstill and severe losses.
