Chapter 2
“I was wrong back then. I was so immature and shouldn’t have argued with you and run away from home. Now I have come to my senses.
“I’ll go back to New York after I settle things here.”
Mariela
walked alone for a long time before
returning
to
the Waterfront Villa at past 10:00 at night.
Upon seeing her, the maid, Amina Hodge, handed her some soup.
“Ms. Logan, you’re back. It’s the soup you made for Mr. Herman to nourish his stomach, right? It was cold, so I heated it up. I was about to take it upstairs when you returned. Would you like to take it up?”
Mariela didn’t say anything. She took the soup and walked towards the upstairs bedroom.
Pushing open the bedroom door, she found no one sitting at the desk. The computer screen was on, but Jaime wasn’t there.
She heard the sound of rushing water from the bathroom, and the lights were on.
He was taking a shower this early today?
She put down the soup.
The constant notifications from the computer’s WhatsApp attracted her attention.
She moved the mouse and clicked on WhatsApp.
Then she saw messages from Juliette.
“Jay, I’m back. I’ll arrive at Los Angeles Airport at 11:30 tonight. Can you pick me up?
Juliette sent this message ten minutes ago.
So, he was taking a shower to pick up his beloved.
“Jay, I’ve missed you all these years. I can’t forget you. And I regret so much breaking up with you to pursue my career abroad.”
“We are both too proud to compromise. I know you still have feelings for me, right?”
*Jay, I’ve dated a few guys over the years, but I always dumped them soon after. Something was always missing. Then I realized I still love you.”
I didn’t dare go back to Los Angeles because I was afraid. What if you still hated me? What if you didn’t want to see me? What if you were already with someone else and no longer loved me?”
I was wrong. Jay, can you forgive me?”
Mariela looked at her messages silently, finding it hard to breathe..
She was about to close the dialog and leave when she saw Jaime’s reply.
“Juliette, answer me this. Do you still love me?”
He had WhatsApp running on his computer, and he still used his phone to reply to her while he was in the shower.
Mariela’s heart trembled slightly.
Jaime

She had already gotten used to it, so she rarely sent him messages now because she didn’t want to disturb him.
However, he made time to reply to Juliette’s messages even while showering.
It was so obvious which one of them was the one he loved.
Juliette almost replied instantly.
“Yes, I do. You’re the only one I love.”
He replied, “OK. I’ll go pick you up.”
