Mariela had a driver’s license and he had been driving a lot in the past three years.
But all the cars belonged to Jaime, while her car was still sitting in the underground garage in her family’s villa in New York, gathering dust. She was with Jaime for three years, and many times it felt like she was more of a designated driver than his girlfriend. Jaime liked to party. When he went out for a drink and couldn’t drive, he would give Mariela a call, and she would drop everything to pick him up from the parties.
She had also heard from Jaime’s friend that when Jaime broke up with his ex–girlfriend, he just threw her a BMW worth over 10 thousand dollars as a break–up gift.
Jaime knew that her job required frequent outings, such as going to court and meeting with clients. However, he never even mentioned buying a car for her.
It’s not that Mariela wanted him to give her a car, but at the moment, it was hard not to put Jaime and Lennon together for comparison. Being liked by Jaime was really something not worth mentioning.
