Mariela listened silently, not responding
She wondered, what if Lauryn tried to hun her?

Mariela had just returned to New York. Fiona and Caylee took her out to eat, drink, have fun, shop, and stroll every day.

“Recently, it’s just been shopping, drinking, and hitting the clubs, I’m really over it,” Fiona sighed, resting her elbows on the table. Suddenly, her face lit up “You know what? The weather’s absolutely perfect today. How about we head over to Caylee’s equestrian club this afternoon?”
Caylee’s family owned the biggest equestrian club in New York.
They had all taken horseback riding lessons together before.
Mariela smiled and teased “Are you sober? If not, don’t go. That’s drunk driving.”
“I sobered up ages ago,” Fiona responded with a mischievous grin. “Last night, I ended up throwing up on Darryl. Poor guy turned the color of a
lime.”
Caylee gave a gentle smile, “Didn’t Darryl get upset about that?
Fiona said, “To my surprise, Darryl is practically like my brother now. Even after I threw up on him, he just changed his clothes, took a shower, and then made me some tea,”
Darryl and Fiona were not biologically related.
Darryl’s mom died young from illness.
Fiona’s parents divorced when she was seven because their relationship failed.
Later, Darryl’s dad met Fiona’s mom through a friend and they quickly married.
Fiona met Darryl when she was nine.
Darryl was fourteen then, a rebellious teen. He didn’t like his stepmom or Fiona
On their first meeting, he pulled Fiona’s ponytail and told her to leave.
Fiona wasn’t easily intimidated.
She instantly damped down hard on Darryl’s wrist with her teeth, leaving a scar that remained visible even now,
Mariela stirred her coffee with a spoon, her eyes fixed on Fiona. “You were definitely sent to give him a hard time.“”
Fiona snorted, “He always pranked me.”
After talking about daily things, Fiona asked, “Are you going to the equestrian club? I haven’t ridden in a while.”
