Mariela replied calmly, “What secrets could there be? We’re all lawyers here, and we know the drill: big cases bring in more cash, small ones less. Plus, Ms. Castillo, I actually don’t make as much as you think. I’ve been at this for three years and still don’t have a car. Meanwhile, rumor has it you’ve already got a place in New York.”
