“11 seems you are getting well though.” Caspian’s voice was gentle, like that of a protector, instantly putting me at ease. My wolf instincts sensed he was safe. 

“But I still need to pay you back. After all, you took the risk to challenge the Black Rock Pack alpha.” I tried to offer something in return, a standard practice in the werewolf world. 

He quickly shook his head. “You saved my life, remember? If you really want to repay me, then just come to my place and eat dinner with me every night.” He said, a hint of hopeful anticipation in his eyes, making an unexpected request. 

I considered it for a moment. It would work. It’s part of the wolf pack dynamic, and it’d give us a chance to connect. 

After an afternoon of sea breeze, reality was still waiting for me. The only thing I could escape was my own heart, I couldn’t outrun the turmoil within myself.

“Stop playing games and come home, back to where you belong.” He spoke as if I were his property. 

I scoffed. Just how arrogant was he, thinking that no matter what he did, all he had to do was call, and I would come running back like a mindless, lovesick wolf?

The next morning, I found Liam outside my apartment looking exhausted and holding a breakfast tray.

His face went through a series of emotions before he grabbed me and pulled me into a tight embrace. “Seraphina, I refuse to nulidy our Blood Oath he whispered, his voice pleading, unable to accept the reality of losing me. 

I laughed, incredulous. He had betrayed our bond, and yet here he was, declaring his refusal to nullify it. 

“I told you, Riley is just family, nothing more. Now you’ve gone and aired our dirty laundry and our pack’s land control has plummeted, so are you satisfied?” He blamed me for everything, without a shred of self awareness.

The argument outside faded, and soon it was silent again Caspian texted me, asking if I was alright. His gentle nature always gave me a setite of calm. I knew he was constardly thinking

Shortly after we finished eating, I got ready to head to the packs medical clinic. I needed to fulfill my duties as a pack doctor. Public opinion had settled and my position had been reinstated. I needed to get back to work and assist more members of my pack, 

I avoided his gaze, pushing away all thoughts of him.

I looked at my newly customized motor, ignoring his lecture. I loved the feeling of freedom, the thrill of the wind rushing in my ears. 

At the next intersection. I easily shook him off. I guaranteed that he wouldn’t be able to catch me; I was too quick and agile for him. He couldn’t possibly know where I worked. It was almost laughable that after three years of our Blood Oath, he had never once taken me to the healer’s clinic. 

Once, during a storm. I’d been unable to get a ride and all the beta guards from our house had been taken by Riley to test out her new car. His world revolved around Riley, leaving no room for me.
