Chapter 8
Just then, out of nowhere, Caspian appeared. He was holding Riley bark, his movements soft and decisive, his eyes blazing with anger. He was putting himself in danger to protect me
I quickly picked up the silver dagger that had fallen during the struggle, folding it away. Edidn’t want that weapon to farm anyone else.
After reporting the incident to the Black Rock Pack guard outpost, we handed her over to the kennel guards and left. They he

1 scoffed. “Well, I guess you’re happy now. You’ll be reunited with your brother at the Arbitrator’s Council. No one can fear you apart there, you’ll finally be together.”
Back at the apartment. I noticed Caspian’s hand. It had a deep gash, likely from being unintentionally hit during the fight. He had risked getting hurt to protect me
He’d been trying to hide the injury in his sleeve, as he said to me, “You must’ve been terrified,” he said, his gentle voice trying to soothe my emotions. “Let’s eat.” He was always putting my needs first.
I walked towards him with a frown, and grabbed his arm, pulling up his sleeve to reveal the gruesome wound. My heart skipped a beat.
“Are you insane? Why didn’t you tell me you were injured?” My tone was a mix of anger and concern. I couldn’t stand the thought of him being hurt.
He instinctively pulled his hand away, forcing a smile. “It’s nothing, it just looks worse than it is.” He didn’t want me to worry, always putting my feelings first, even in pain.)
I didn’t say a word. Silently, I grabbed the herbs and treated his wound. My heart ached.
Once I was done, my expression was still grave, I couldn’t control my emotions.
As I stood to put the herbs back, he tugged at my sleeve. “Are you coming back after you go downstairs?” His voice was laced with anxiety, his eyes filled with a wary vulnerability, afraid that I might leave him.
Seeing him so insecure and tentative made my frustration evaporate. His kindness always disarmed me
I sighed. “What else would I do? Can you eat all of this on your own?” I used a question to answer his, not wanting him to feel
insecure.
His face lit up, like a discarded pup being reclaimed by its owner. His smile was pure and gentle, and I had an overwhelming urge to hold him close.
After we’d finished eating, he started clearing away the dishes, and I stopped him.
After some careful thought, I knew that I had to speak to him. I needed to face this growing feeling
I opened his drink for him, and then, completely without warning. I asked. “Do you have feelings for me?”

He choked on his drink, his eyes and face going red as he coughed. His reaction said it all; he couldn’t hide his here for me
I suddenly realized that, without a single word, he had shown me he loved me.

Chapter 8
“Caspian.” I said, trying to analyze his feelings using logic, “Is it possible you’re not actually in love with me? Maybe you’re just grateful that I helped you and you’ve developed a dependence on me, seeing me as your savior?”
“You keep to yourself too much. You should spend time with other werewolves; maybe you’ll realize this isn’t real love, it’s just you being dependent on me.” I spoke to him as a professional, using my knowledge as a healer.
I’d said enough, and then I fled. I was afraid to face these feelings. I didn’t want to get
want to get hurt again.
It was better to offer a clear rejection, because my wolf wouldn’t be able to handle any ambiguity.
For a long time, I avoided every request Caspian made to go on a date. I was running from these feelings, afraid to be hurt Again.
Then, an opportunity came up for me to do a blood exchange program with another pack. I immediately applied. I needed to leave, to run from these feelings, to grow.
I embarked on a worldwide journey to teach suicide intervention techniques. I needed to help other people, instead of being trapped in the past.
I would occasionally post pictures of my travels on Wolfgram, displaying my life of freedom and contentment.
Liam and Caspian were always the first to like them. They were still watching me, and they both hadn’t given up. They were both waiting for me.
When I finally returned to the territory two years later, I’d changed a lot. I’d grown, I was more mature and strong.
The first familiar face I saw was Liam’s mother. Her face was lined with worry, a permanent furrow in between her eyebrows. She no longer held her former grace and arrogance
The once beautiful, refined woman was now gaunt and worn, consumed by time and pain. I had never liked her. She had always been condescending, and every time we’d met, she’d tried to persuade me to leave Liam. She had always put herself first
Her eyes filled with tears, “Seraphina, I know our family wronged you, but now I’m begging you…” Her pride had completel gine. She was just a helpless mother wolf, seeking help for her child.
“Please, go and try to persuade Liam at Silver Moon Valley. He has bone rot disease and he won’t listen to anyone else other than you.” Her request was laced with desperation and despair. She’d given up her pride. All she wanted was her son to live.
She rambled on for a whole afternoon, telling me about the decline of their family and how their lands had been ravaged by infighting.
It turned out an illegitimate son had been revealed in the family. After the scandal with him and Riley had been revealed, control of their land had plummeted. Even when they’d tried to fix things, it had been too late. Their family was crumbling.
The illegitimate son had used that opportunity to gain influence with the elders. And at that time, Liam hadn’t cared about” any of it, while Riley was scheming in secret. She’d agreed that if the son became leader, then she’d get to be with Liam again. They were willing to do anything to get more power.
