Unfortunately for Harvey, his troubles were far from over. Just after being put in his place by Andrew, Leroy decided to strike with another blow.
“Harvey, I need an answer right now. When are you going to pay back the money you borrowed from me?” Leroy’s tone was aggressive, completely different from his usual fawning attitude toward him.
“Leroy, considering my relationship with Christie, what’s a few million between family? I could pay you back in a heartbeat,” Harvey said, his patience wearing thin.
Leroy extended his hand and demanded, “Great, then pay me right now.”
Harvey was furious but helpless. He did not have the money to pay Leroy, and he could not even bear to think about his other debts, wondering if he would have to sell everything he owned just to break even.
Leroy mocked, “Harvey, you’re supposed to be the Weller family heir and want to marry Christie. If you can’t even come up with a few million, what makes you think you’re worthy of marrying her?”
Harvey trembled with humiliation. Never before had the golden boy of Jayrodale been pushed into such a corner.
What made it worse was that while he could normally make anyone who crossed him disappear without a trace, this was Christina’s brother, so he had to hold back.
“Leroy, just give me some time. I promise I’ll find a way to pay back everything I owe to you, Mrs. Stevens, and Christina,” Harvey pleaded, trying to buy time with empty promises.
However, Leroy was not buying it. “Oh, please! I can see right through you, Harvey. You’re all talk–nothing but a pretty face with no substance. I know you’re just planning to borrow money to pay me back. Why don’t you just ask Andrew? He’s rich now, and he’s standing right here.”
“You expect me to borrow money from him? Do you think someone of my status would stoop so low?” Harvey felt deeply insulted.
Leroy shrugged. “That’s not my problem. Honestly, I’d rather have Andrew as a brother–in- law now. You’re nothing but a broke fraud, Harvey. The Stevens family must have been blind to ever consider you.
The blatant disrespect nearly pushed Harvey over the edge. “Leroy, are you looking down on me?”
Christina noticed that things were escalating, and she quickly stepped in “Leroy, that’s enough! If Harvey can’t pay right now, stop pushing him.

“Let’s put this aside for now,” Christina said firmly. “If anyone’s to blame, it’s me. If I had been more careful, we wouldn’t have lost so much.”
Suddenly, Leroy turned to Andrew with a complete change in attitude. “Andrew, I apologize for how I treated you before. I know you still have feelings for Christina, and honestly, you two would make a perfect couple now. Why don’t you consider rekindling your relationship with her?”
His face showed an eager, almost desperate expression as he smiled ingratiatingly at Andrew. “Sorry, I’m not interested,” Andrew replied coldly.
“Come on, Andrew,” Leroy persisted. “You’ve got money, power, and status now. You and Christina would be perfect together.”
