Chapter 5 Leila Gets Injured 

When the villagers heard the commotion, they all came out to see what the fuss was about. “Vivian. I asked you to watch my daughter for a while as I needed to go to treat an ill villager. But you took the money and fled home. 

Hazel turned her gaze towards the gossiping crowd and said, “From now on, I’ll take care of my daughter every step of the way. If anyone in the village feels unwell, they should go to town for medical treatment.” 

With a a few words, she explained why she no longer offered medical treatment. That day, word of Vivian taking money without doing any work and angering her employer spread in Nyack. 

The next day, some villagers sought Hazel’s acupuncture treatment after experiencing discomfort from rheumatism. But she turned them all down. 

Hazel’s attitude toward Gabriel also improved a little because he looked after Leila that day. 

Gabriel cooked three meals for everyone while he was preparing meals for his two sons. 

Hazel found it funny when she thought about it. When they were married and living together, she never got to taste his cooking. But now she did after their divorce. 

However, since she heard Leila call Gabriel Daddy the other day, Hazel no longer allowed him to get close to Leila. 

Except for meal times, Leila was always in the second–floor study. 

Leila mostly stayed in the children’s play area of the study. Jaxon and Joshua also often stayed there to accompany her. 

The two brothers usually went to play with Leila after they got up in the morning. They had grown accustomed to Hazel’s long face. 

Ezra found their peculiar but loving relationship perplexing.

The sky cleared up on the second day after the rain stopped and the river water subsided. 

Hazel had an important call to take. She got up and went to the balcony to answer it when he noticed Leila playing with toys inside the study’s railing, accompanied by Jaxon and Joshua. 

Her subordinate reported to her about the situation of the land at Redwood Ren 

Hazel said, “John, we have to buy that piece of land.” 

In the past two years, she visited so many places and found that only the piece of land at the Redwood Resort was ideal for growing her precious herbs. 

Once large–scale cultivation of new varieties was successful, many currently incurable fatal diseases could be alleviated or even cured. 

John assured, “Ms. Robinson, don’t worry, I will acquire that piece of land at all costs!

After hanging up the phone, Hazel walked in from the balcony but didn’t see Leila in the study.

Hazel walked briskly down the stairs and said, “Let her go.” 

Gianna looked up and felt a jolt when she saw Hazel. 

Gianna’s hand that was pinching Leila’s fingers purposefully flipped over when Leila yelled “Mommy“. Leila’s delicate skin was scratched red by her exquisitely manicured nails, which were Encrusted with large diamonds.

The sound of the child crying interrupted Gabriel’s meeting with Ezra in the guest room, and he walked out right away. 

When he emerged from the guest room, he saw Hazel angrily slapping Gianna with one hand while holding Leila with the other. 

Gabriel sternly said, “Hazel, what are you doing?” 

Gianna came to Nyack with the Campbell family’s bodyguards. Her eyes went red when she saw Gabriel. 

“Gabriel, I just wanted to hug the girl because she looked cute. I don’t know why Hazel hit me suddenly.” 

Hazel was very strong, and Gianna’s face swelled up. 

Ignoring her explanation, Hazel immediately got an additional medical kit to disinfect Leila’s wound. Her hands were shaking when she saw the bleeding wound. 

Fortunately, it was resolved swiftly and stopped bleeding. It didn’t become a serious injury.. Leila was sobbing, wrapping her 

her arms around Hazel’s neck. “Mom, it hurts.” 

“Leila, you’re the best. The pain would be gone soon.” 

Hazel’s eyes were filled with self–blame. She shouldn’t have let Leila out of her sight. 

Gabriel noticed the wound on Leila’s face, which had swollen. He became distressed and worried, his gaze darkening. 

Gianna hid her nails that scratched the child’s face out of a sense of guilt. “Gabriel, it wasn’t intentional. I unintentionally scratched Leila’s face because Hazel startled me when she spoke.” Hazel was very angry and said, “Who let you 

into my house?” 

Gabriel saw that Hazel’s hand was shaking as she held Leila and that her mood was clearly off. He quickly extended his hands to grab Leila, but they simultaneously ducked out of his way. 

Gabriel froze. “Leila.” 

Leila refused to look at Gabriel, with her arms around Hazel’s neck in grievance. Bespite her young age, Leila knew that those her mother disliked were bad people.

Joshua looked at Hazel in fear. It was he who went to open the door to let Gianna in. She said she brought him a small cake. 

It had been a while since he had eaten cake. 

He muttered, “It was me.” 

Hazel looked at him and saw the cream at the corner of his mouth and then the small cake on the table. 

“I regretted it! Get out of my house, all of you!” 

Joshua began to cry out of fear, and Jaxon beside him dared not speak. Ezra hurriedly pulled them aside. 

Seeing the state of the two sons, Gabriel frowned and said, “Hazel, be rational.” 

Hazel covered Leila’s ears and sarcastically said, “Gabriel, can’t you understand human language? I told you to 

out. get 

Leave my house with your woman and your sons!” Gianna pretended to be considerate and said, “Hazel, I know you misunderstood me before, but I don’t blame you. Consider this slap as my apology to you. We can still be friends in the future. “But Gabriel did nothing wrong. Jaxon and Joshua have nothing to do with it either. You can’t

Just at that moment, the people sent by John to pick Hazel and Leila up arrived. Over twenty sturdy men got out of the six cars that arrived grandly. Hazel told them to drive Gianna and the others out. 

The Campbell family’s bodyguards were outnumbered and overpowered. They were all tied up and thrown out of the courtyard. 

Gianna was also thrown out and fell into the puddle by the courtyard gate. Her pure white dress was instantly covered in mud. 

Gabriel, with a chilly aura, took hold of Hazel’s wrist and spoke in a low and commanding voice, “Hazel, didn’t you go too far?” 

Hazel was angered by his words, her eyes turning red. “Everything I do is out of line in your eyes. This one more thing doesn’t make a difference. 

Gabriel didn’t react right away because he had never seen her like this before. By the time he opened his mouth to speak, she had already pushed his hand away. 

Hazel lowered her gaze and said coldly, “Please leave my house immediately!” Joshua stared at Hazel, frozen in place, wanting to speak but not daring to. Finally, Joshua ran out and helped up Gianna, who had fallen to the ground. He asked with concern, “Gianna, are you okay?” 

Jaxon stood still as he watched Hazel and Leila in her arms. 

Hazel watched Gabriel and the two children in front of her, heartbroken. She couldn’t bear to hope for anything from them anymore. 

She really shouldn’t have been softhearted. She only hoped that they never appeared in front of Her again in this lifetime.
