Chapter 104
I was excited when Carlos invited me over to his house. I thought it would be a great chance to relax and catch up with him and Faye, who I knew missed me. As I stepped inside, the cozy living room welcomed me. The room was filled with the delicious smell of freshly baked cookies. Everything felt perfect until things took a funny turn.
When I walked in, I spotted a wall filled with family photos. Most of them showed Carlos in goofy moments from his childhood, and I couldn’t help but laugh at one picture where he wore a silly costume at a Halloween party. Just as I was getting lost in my thoughts, Carlos walked in and caught me staring. “Yeah, I was quite the catch back then, wasn’t I?” he teased, making my cheeks heat up.
Then Faye burst into the room, full of energy and ready to spill secrets. “Doris, did you know Carlos used to wear his superhero cape everywhere? Even to bed!” she exclaimed, laughing so hard that I felt my face turn crimson. Carlos shot her a playful look, as if to say, “What can I do? I was a hero!”
Things got
got even more awkward when Faye suddenly asked, “So, when are you and Carlos going to make it official?” I nearly choked on my cookie. I fumbled for words, my mind racing. If I had known I’d face such embarrassing questions, I might have thought twice about coming over. Instead, I wished I could disappear into the floor, feeling a mix of amusement and embarrassment swirling inside me.
But why would Faye ask me that question? Carlos has a fiancee… Is there a secret here?
That night, Faye’s playful words remained in my mind as I headed home, but I quickly brushed them off as it was just a harmless teasing. Just as I drifted into sleep, ready for a peaceful morning, an unexpected sound shattered the quiet of the next day.
The next morning, a loud crash jolted me awake. My heart pounded as I realized it was the sound of breaking glass. I sat up, listening, then hurried to check. Almost every glass surface in the house was smashed. Shards were everywhere, glinting in the dim light. “Nathan!” I spat out his name angrily, assuming he was behind this. “I swear, if this is one of your pranks. With my blood boiling, I rushed downstairs and flung the front door open, ready to confront him. But there was no one. The silence made the mess feel even more
ominous
As I stepped outside, a cold breeze hit me, and my heart raced with confusion. The street was quiet. There was not even a single soul in sight. “Where is he?” I muttered, feeling a mix of anger and worry. Had Nathan really done this, or was something else going on? I remembered the strange things that had happened lately. The unease settled in my stomach. I took a deep breath as I was trying my best to stay calm. I had to figure out what was happening and why my home felt so unsafe. No more waiting; it was time to find
answers.
Just then, I noticed the mailbox on the door was open. Inside was a letter. The envelope was wet, and a dark stain spread across it. Blood. I swallowed hard, forcing myself to take it out
and open it. The messago
inside was brief but chilling:” Looking forward to my meeting with you. Please prepare yourself as soon as possible“. The handwriting was unfamiliar, and immediately, I knew Nathan had nothing to do with this. He’d never go this far.
I thought to myself,” Who had sent this, and what did they want? I looked around, feeling like someone might jump out at me. The letter felt heavy in my hand. Each second made my heart race faster. I quickly shoved it back into the envelope. My mind kept racing with questions. This wasn’t just a prank; it felt serious. I needed to find out who was behind this
and why they were after me.
Tina’s small voice spoke up. “Something’s been strange lately, Doris.” “It’s… probably just some prank. Maybe a rogue wolf,” I replied, trying to sound calm. But I knew I was lying, and I was certain Tina could feel my unease. I was saying it as much for her as for myself.
After cleaning up the mess, I took Cyrus out with me. We needed to pick up a gift for our visit to Carlos’s house later. Just as I was trying to push the creepy letter from my mind, Cyrus held onto my hand and beamed up at me. “Mummy, you’re the best gift ever! Carlos will love you!” I laughed, his sweetness melting away some of my tension. “Aren’t you a bit young to say things like that?” I teased, ruffling his hair.
We decided on scented candles, something that felt thoughtful but neutral. I picked one with a deep, warm scent, thinking Carlos would like it. Cyrus held up a light blue candle. “Mummy, this color reminds me of him!” he said with certainty. “Alright, blue it is,” I smiled,
and we headed to Carlos’s house.
When we arrived, the housekeeper welcomed us warmly. I felt a little more at ease. Soon, Faye came over, inviting me to wander in the garden while Cyrus played nearby.
As I walked around, I noticed a familiar figure among the guests–a young woman I’d seen

the garden before. She noticed me watching and smiled, a knowing glint in her eyes. Who is that?” I whispered to Faye, unable to hide my curiosity. “That’s Odette,” Faye -replied, her tone light. The name sent a chill down my spine. Odette… the name of Carlos’s
fiancée. I felt my expression shift, and Faye noticed.
