Chapter 117
Cold sweat covered me as I looked back at him, feeling helpless and trapped once again. He approached slowly, his eyes filled with satisfaction. I glared at him, refusing to show my fear. “You drugged me, didn’t you?”
Merhold chuckled, crouching down to look me in the eyes. “I couldn’t have you slipping
away that easily, now could I? I told you we’d be having dinner.”
Defeated, I could only watch as he reached down, lifting me effortlessly into his arms. I struggled weakly, but my body was too drained, barely able to resist. He held me securely, walking back through the trees until we reached a clearing where a helicopter waited, its blades slicing through the night air. “Put me down,” I managed to mutter, though I knew it was pointless. “As you wish… after dinner,” he replied, carrying me up into the helicopter. I stared out, watching the ground slip further and further away as we took off.
Carlos’s POV
I sat next to Cyrus, softly brushing a lock of hair from his forehead. His small, innocent face
looked so peaceful as he drifted off to sleep. I whispered a gentle lullaby, a song I’d always sung to him. It wasn’t anything fancy. It was just a simple melody that had always calmed
him, and it seemed to work now. I promised him softly, “I’ll bring her back, little one.”
Once Cyrus was asleep, his breathing even and steady, I wiped away the tear that had
slipped down my cheek. I couldn’t afford to let my emotions show, not now. I had work to do. Doris was out there somewhere, and I wasn’t going to rest until I found her.
I quietly stood up from his bedside and walked out of the room. The moment I stepped into the hallway, I was met by a group of werewolf officers, all wearing their royal totems, standing stiffly like they were waiting for an order. Their uniforms were sharp, their
postures rigid, but their eyes held something that angered me. They had failed. No one had found Doris yet. It was embarrassing.
I didn’t hide my frustration. “Why haven’t you found her?” I asked in a cold and sharp voice “Why are we still standing here with no answers?” The room went silent. They didn’t need.
“Giving Up My First Love For Secret Research. Second Chance at Happiness
to answer, I could see it in their eyes, the humiliation. They knew it, I knew it, and we all felt it. How could royal guards, the best the kingdom had to offer, fail to find one missing
erson in our own land, in the werewolf kingdom? It was unacceptable.
Beside me, Vesta stood nervously, her hands wringing the fabric of her dress. Her eyes were wide with worry, and I could feel her anxiety rolling off of her. I could tell she wanted to cry, but she was holding it back. We were all on edge.
Just then, one of the werewolf officers burst through the door, out of breath. “Prince Carlos!” he called out in a frantic voice.. “A werewolf spotted someone who looked like Doris! He said he saw a snow white wolf near a highway. He’s not sure if it’s her, but it’s worth checking out.” Without wasting a second, I turned to one of the officers. “Get someone on it. I want confirmation immediately.”
But before they could move, Nathan arrived, holding a letter in his hand. His face was grim. I could already tell that this wasn’t good news.
He didn’t say a word at first, just handed me the letter. I tore it open and quickly scanned it. The words made my stomach drop. It was from a rogue wolf. He said that there was no need to search the highway anymore because he had already taken Doris to a different location. “Where is she? Where did he take her?” I demanded loudly.
Nathan was silent for a moment, looking as helpless as I felt. He knew we had to find this rogue, but he had no more answers than I did. The rogue had disappeared after sending the letter. I felt the anger building inside me, bubbling over. I needed answers. I needed to know where Doris was and who was behind this.
We interrogated the rogue wolf who delivered the letter. His eyes were wide with fear, hist body trembling as he sat before us. He couldn’t look us in the eye. “I don’t know,” he stammered. “I’m just the messenger. I don’t know what’s going on. It didn’t make sense, If he didn’t know anything, why had he come here? Why had he been involved in this at all? I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. I had let Doris down.
I remembered the strange problems Doris had at home before. She’d been upset, arguing with me about something. I hadn’t taken it seriously, and now she was gone. If I had been hore attentive, more protective, none of this would have happened.
-I felt the weight of guilt pressing down on me, but then Nathan’s voice cut through my thoughts, harsh and accusing. “If you had done your job, maybe we wouldn’t be in this

ess.” His words were like a slap in the face. He was right. I should have protected her.
Tfelt the anger rise in me again, this time directed at him. “Don’t blame me for this,” I
snapped. “You weren’t the one with her when she needed someone.”
The two of us were shouting now, the tension in the room so thick you could cut it with a
knife.
