Chapter 24
The hospital room was cold, sterile, and stifling in its emptiness. The stark white walls reflected the fluorescent lights above, making everything feel brighter and harsher than it needed to be. I could hear the faint hum of machines beeping in the background, their rhythmic tones mocking the chaos bubbling inside me. My body lay still on the bed with the pain of broken glasses in every inch of me, but my mind was a storm of emotions. After all the mess that Sienna created followed by my injuries, I was brought to this hospital by
Issca.
Nathan had stormed into the room just minutes ago following us to the Hospital, his surprise obvious in the way his eyes widened when he saw Issca sitting by my side. The hurt on his face was undeniable, as if I had struck him personally by allowing Issca to stay. But I couldn’t look at Nathan; I refused to meet his gaze. He had made his choices long ago, just as I had made mine.
Issca sat calmly beside me, his presence comforting yet quiet, as if he were more of a shadow than a man. His steady hand rested lightly on the edge of the bed, never crossing the line into anything intimate, but always there if I needed it.
I knew Issca cared for me more than he let on, his gentlemanly nature made it hard for him to say much, but the warmth in his eyes when he looked at me told a different story. Before I could think more about it.. My thoughts were interrupted as I looked at the door…
Nathan, still standing at the door, seemed frozen. His face was a mixture of disbelief, anger, and regret. “Doris,” he started, his voice cracking slightly, “why him? Why are you letting him stay? And you’re… you’re not asking me to stay?
I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. My fingers tightened around the blanket that covered my lap, but I kept my eyes focused on the floor. I had no energy left to explain myself to Nathan, not after everything.
Issca was the first to speak. His voice was calm, almost too calm, and laced with an authority I rarely heard from him. “Nathan, Doris needs peace. This is not the time for
arguments.”
Nathan’s eyes narrowed, his anger flaring at Issca’s composed tone. “And what gives you

the right to be here? You think you’re helping?” His voice was rising, agitation brewing in every word. I could feel the tension in the room crackling like electricity, thick and
suffocating.
Issca didn’t flinch. I’m here because Doris trusts me to be,” he replied coolly. “And you…
you need to leave.”
