“Miss, we should leave now,” Benson, her bodyguard, urged.
“Relax, Benson. I’m almost done,” Laura said calmly, crouching down in front of Alice, who was still on the ground. “Listen carefully, Alice. Never. And I mean never refer to my daughter like that again. Because I promise you–you don’t want to be the reason your entire family ends up ruined.”
“I don’t know where the hell you found this courage, Laura But this isn’t over,” Alice spat as she struggled to stand.
“Oh, I want to see you try,” Laura smirked. “Because as far as I know, your family’s finances aren’t looking too great. You still think you’re rich, but according to the rumors… you’re not. And all it would take is a snap of my fingers for you and your family to lose everything.”
Then, she stood up and turned to leave.
“Let’s go, Benson. It’s time to head home,” she said, walking away with her bodyguard beside her. She glanced over her shoulder at Adrian. “You know what you have to do if you want to see my daughter.
“If you can’t guarantee her safety, if you can’t make sure that your wife won’t lay a hand on her, then don’t even bother coming near her.”
Adrian remained in shock. He had never seen Laura like this before. To him, she had always been a quiet, kind girl -someone incapable of hurting anyone.
As she walked away, Laura suddenly stopped and turned back one last time.
“Oh, and Alice George,” she said, her voice icy, “one more thing. I’m not a Palmer anymore. I’m an Evans now. And as an Evans, I can and will destroy anyone who dares to mess with my daughter. You, your family, or anyone else who even thinks about crossing that line.”
Then, without another glance, she left.
Laura walked beside Benson in silence. Her whole body was tense, her hands were still trembling, and her heart was pounding in her chest.
The moment she climbed into the SUV and fastened her seatbelt, she completely fell apart.
Her hands shook uncontrollably as tears welled up in her eyes.
“Benson… what did I just do?” she asked between quiet sobs.
“Miss, you did nothing wrong. You just put someone in their place,” Benson replied, feeling guilty that he hadn’t stepped in sooner.
“I don’t even know where that courage came from… Oh! My car!” she suddenly realized.
“Don’t worry, Miss. I already had someone pick it up. You’re in no condition to drive right now. Do you want to go home?”
“No… I can’t go home like this. Let’s just drive around for a bit. I need to calm down.”

“I guess so…” Laura admitted, wiping her face, a mix of guilt and relief washing over her. “Benson… please. Not a word of this to my dad. Please.”
“Don’t worry, Miss.”
Laura took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
“I think I’ve calmed down now… Let’s go home. I can’t wait to see my little girl.”
“Yes, Miss,” Benson said, smiling slightly as he started driving back.
