While Maximus waited for confirmation that his wife was at home, he glanced at the long list of missed calls from Alexia’s parents. For a moment, he hesitated, but he decided to call her father, who was the most reasonable among the Levetts.
“Levett, do you know where your daughter is? Why the hell are people calling me, saying she’s in the hospital?”
“Maximus, I thought you weren’t in the country! My Alexia had a terrible accident. Come to the hospital immediately; she’s in critical condition, and her prognosis is uncertain.”

“I have a security team following me. They’ll deal with you. My father never leaves me unprotected.”
“For God’s sake! Don’t you get it yet? Your security team is’t following you. We lost them minutes ago. As far as everyone knows, you’re still on campus. Calm down; we’re almost at my father’s house–your grandfather’s house.”
Serenity cursed herself silently. She was a complete fool. She’d fallen into the trap of someone she barely knew. Her parents weren’t home, and the only person who could protect her wasn’t anywhere nearby.
