“Peter! You’re awake! Let me go get the doctor… You woke up!” Celeste said, her face lighting up with excitement.
She was about to get up from his chest when Peter’s hand grabbed her wrist.
“I asked you a question.”
“Peter? Peter, it’s me, Celeste! Give me a second, I’ll go get the doctor,” Celeste said, trying to free herself from his grip.
“No… I don’t know you. Where am I? What the hell? I… I was… Where’s Marcus? I want to see Marcus! This has to be a fucking joke! Who the hell are you?”
Celeste managed to break free from Peter’s grasp and immediately called for the doctor. Within moments, the room filled with nurses and medical staff, including Dr. Wagner. They all checked his vitals and observed him carefully.
Among the doctors and nurses, Peter’s gaze was locked on Celeste. He couldn’t understand who she was, but something about her caught his attention–her unusual beauty. She wasn’t the type of woman he would consider as a girlfriend or a lover. In fact, she was the complete opposite of what he typically looked for. He was confused. Who the hell was she? Why was she so close to him? He questioned himself mentally.
“Mr. Palmer, how are you feeling? I understand you were quite startled when you woke up,” Dr. Wagner said, still
in shock.
“Who are you? What happened to me? What the hell am I doing here?”
“Mr. Palmer, let me ask you something–what is your last memory?”
“My… my eyes hurt, the light is too bright. Can you dim it?”
“Close the curtains!” Dr. Wagner ordered. “Mr. Palmer, I know you just woke up, but it’s important that you answer my question.”
“A dinner… My friend and I… We were at a dinner… Marcus! Marcus Bartz! We were both at an important dinner. Where is Marcus? Marcus Bartz! Where’s my friend?”
“Mr. Palmer, please try to relax. You’re okay. I know this is confusing, but you need to stay calm,” Dr. Wagner said, holding him steady.
“Who the hell are you? Where the hell am I? What… what happened to me? I was attacked, wasn’t I?” Peter said, struggling to make sense of his situation.
His eyes locked onto someone–someone watching him with deep concern.
“Who the hell is she?” he asked, pointing at Celeste.
“Mr. Palmer… Before anything else, we need to run some tests. You’ve just woken up from a long sleep, and we need to make sure everything is alright.”
“What happened to me?”
“Well… It’s a bit complicated to explain, but I can assure you that more than a few people will be very happy that you’re awake.”
With that, the doctor turned to a nurse and handed her a list of tests to run.
“Miss Celeste, please stay calm. We’ll figure out what’s going on. In the meantime, it would be a good idea to

“Family? My only family is Marcus Bartz. I need to talk to him.”
“Mr. Palmer, just one question–what year is it right now?”
“In the year 2000–God! What kind of question is that?”
“Peter… my love…” Celeste said, worried.
“Oh, sweetheart! Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’ve been watching you for minutes, and I have no idea who the hell you are… I’m absolutely sure I don’t know you, and it’s completely strange that you’re here…”
“Peter!”
“Please, let’s stay calm. If you’d like to see Mr. Bartz, we’ll find him. He’s been very concerned about your health, and your whole family has been waiting for you to wake up. Let us run a few tests first, and after that, I promise we’ll explain everything.”
“What the hell did I do? What did I get myself into this time?”
“Mrs. Palmer, please stay calm. I know there must be a medical explanation for this, but above all, try to keep your composure. In your condition, you shouldn’t be having these kinds of shocks,” Dr. Wagner said as he watched the beautiful woman, her face filled with worry and uncertainty.
Peter took in the scene, and his eyes landed on the small baby bump showing through the woman’s clothes. For some strange reason, she seemed familiar, but he couldn’t remember ever seeing her in his life.
“Doctor, we’re ready to proceed with the tests you requested. It’s time to take the patient.”
“Go ahead.”
Celeste held back from getting closer, even though she was dying to. The man she loved, the one who had proposed to her just days ago, was looking at her with confusion. No matter how much she searched his eyes, she couldn’t find even a trace of the warmth he always had when he looked at her before.
“Mr. Palmer, I know you’re disoriented, and there’s a lot we need to talk about, but first, I need you to stay calm. We’ll run some tests. One more question–how old are you?”
“Twenty–seven.”
“Alright, let’s see what’s going on in that head of yours…”

Once Peter was taken out of the room, Celeste called the whole family. She was overwhelmed, but none of it mattered–Peter was awake, and that was the most important thing to her.
“Maximus… Peter just woke up…” Celeste said, trying to steady her heart.
“Celeste… That’s amazing news! What’s wrong? You don’t sound excited–you should be! You’ve been waiting for this for weeks,” Maximus said, sounding puzzled.
“Maximus… Peter woke up a little… off. He doesn’t recognize me, and he’s asking to see Marcus Bartz. I don’t understand what’s happening. They just took him for some tests, and Dr. Wagner doesn’t have an explanation either. Can you come and help me get in touch with Marcus Bartz?”
“Hmm… Yeah, I’m on my way. Where’s Alden?”
“He stepped out for a bit–went to take a shower and said he’d be back in a few minutes. I already let him know, too.”
