Peter fell silent. It was too much to process. How the hell had so many years passed? What had happened to Katherine? How was it possible that he had wanted to marry someone who wasn’t Katherine? “Why are you looking down, Marcus? You said it yourself you and she thought I was dead. It makes sense that you would move on with your lives. And honestly… hearing that you took care of my daughter–even though I can’t process having kids—makes me proud of you, my friend. Even if, technically, she wasn’t mine,” Peter said, seeing the guilt written all over Marcus’s face.
“Yeah… This past year has been complicated. Maximus and I only recently found out that he is Serenity’s father. And to be honest, that revelation caused a lot of problems. But with everything that’s happened, those reactions seem like nothing now.”
“I don’t know who this Mary woman is, but I don’t have a good feeling about her. Honestly, I doubt I was ever in love with her. How could I have been with my brother’s ex–wife? I’m not the kind of man who picks up Maximus’s leftovers. How the hell did he even end up marrying her? Wasn’t he still miserable over his precious Alexia? Did that bitch have him whipped?”
Marcus listened, and it was clear–these were the thoughts of the Peter he had always known. That was why he was being careful about how he revealed the truth. He didn’t want to destroy everything that had been built over the years with a single mistake.
“Peter, like I told you, you were in love with her. Fate just took you down different paths, And, well… you have a son with Katherine. His name is Alden. And he… is married to my daughter.”

“That’s not all. Serenity is pregnant. You’re going to be a grandfather–for the second time.”
“What do you mean, second time? What are you trying to say?”
“I think that’s something your son should explain to you. He’s the spitting image of you… with, of course, some features from Katherine.”
You want the truth? This all sounds like a fucking joke. Katherine would never have a child out of wedlock, especially with me! And by the way… who was the woman in my room when I woke up?”
