“These two little ones are going to need all of our attention
For a moment, Peter just looked at Celeste, slowly realizing what it was about her that drew him in.
It wasn’t just her outward beauty- not that she was unattractive or that he didn’t like her but, to be honest, she wasn’t the type of woman he would normally feel attracted to. It was something else. It was her warmth, her kindness–it was all the things he had always searched for In other women but never admitted out loud.
Even though his mind was a complete mess, constantly playing tricks on him–because, as far as he remembered, Katherine was his world–Celeste was everything he truly needed. She was a woman who brought him peace, a woman who genuinely cared about him. She said he was strong, but no–she was the strong one. Even with her pregnancy so far along, she had never left his side, never once thought about how exhausted she might be. All she wanted was to be there for him.
“Let’s go inside. It’s late, and the mosquitoes will be out soon to feast on us,” Peter said, letting go of her.
“Yeah, let’s go…
“Are you hungry?”
“No… I think you bought enough food to last us the whole trip.”
“Good… Then let’s head inside. The breeze is making it a little chilly out here.”
“Yeah…” Celeste agreed, trying to get up, though it took some effort.
Peter saw her struggling, stood up, and effortlessly lifted her by the waist, as if she weighed nothing.
“The house is supposedly ready to live in, so we shouldn’t have any issues staying the night here.”
“No, I don’t think so.”
They stepped inside, and time seemed to fly by. Celeste couldn’t deny that Peter was right–this house was a home. It wasn’t a mansion or a castle like the ones she had seen before. This place radiated warmth, something that set it apart from all the others.
It reminded her of her own home, which made her suddenly remember something–her cat, Spike. She had left him with the neighbors, who, strangely enough, seemed like his second owners. Some days, he would disappear, and when she least expected it, he would come strolling out of their house.
“Peter, can we go to my house in Willowcombe?”
“Of course! I don’t see why not.”
“I just want to pick up Spike…”
“Who’s Spike?”
“My cat,” Celeste said with a nostalgic smile. “He’s old, but he’s been my only companion for so many years.”
“Yeah, I don’t see why we wouldn’t go. How about tomorrow?”
“Sure. I mean, it doesn’t have to be right away, but I’d like to bring him home… and check on my house.” “Alright…” Peter said, wrapping an arm around her waist and looking into her eyes. “Celeste, I want you to know that I’m going to do my best to make this work. If life put us on the same path, there must be a reason, right? And these babies didn’t just show up out of nowhere.”

Celeste felt the warmth radiating from him, his scent, the strength in his embrace It all took her back to the past, back to when he had tried to win her over with every tle thing he did.
After a few minutes in each other’s arms, he gently lifted her chin, bringing her lips to his.
Celeste felt Peter’s kiss. It wasn’t like the ones she was used to. The Peter she had known before was attractive and charming, but the man standing in front of her now was something else entirely. He was even more seductive, and his kisses–intense, full of passion and longing–were completely different from before.
Peter picked her up and carried her to the master bedroom. Celeste knew what was about to happen, and nerves fluttered in her stomach. It felt as if she were about to make love to a different person. But no, it wasn’t that–he was the same man.
He gently laid her down on the bed, his lips never leaving hers. Slowly, he began unbuttoning her dress. The soft scent of roses filled the air, calming him. His hands explored her body, his lips tracing over her exposed skin.
Celeste was lost in the sensations–new, overwhelming, driving her insane.
During her pregnancy, her hormones had been all over the place, but there had been no time for moments like this. Not when the father of her children had been fighting for his life.
But now… now, things were different.
Now, he was here.
And the man she was with was making her feel things that the Peter she once knew had never made her feel before.
