Celeste smiled at that, a rosy blush creeping onto her cheeks. Peter grinned at her reaction.
A few hours later, they arrived home. Alden was waiting in the living room, visibly nervous. He hadn’t heard from his father since yesterday before he left for Galea. Peter usually didn’t do things like this, so Alden had been on edge the whole time.
“Alden? What’s wrong?” Celeste asked, concerned.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were staying overnight in Galea? I was freaking out!” Alden said, practically on the verge of a breakdown. “Even Uncle Maximus was helping me look for you!”
“Alden, son, I forgot to let you know, but you knew I was going to Galea. It was obvious–I don’t like driving at night. You know I wouldn’t come back that late…”
Something to one had told him. If Peter supposedly didn’t
Alden went pale. That was an important detail,
remember his son, how did he know Alden should’ve been aware of that?
“Dad!” Alden exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement.
“You just remembered something…”
“What?” Peter asked, slightly exasperated.
“How do you know that I should know you don’t like driving at night?”
Peter fell silent. He had no explanation, no response. He was about to agree with Alden when, out of nowhere, a small figure came running toward him.
“GRANDPA! GRANDPA! YOU’RE HERE! GRANDPA!” Ethan shouted from across the room.
Peter turned and saw a little boy sprinting toward him. At that precise moment, he crouched down and opened his arms. He had been waiting for something, for someone, and that someone was none other than Ethan–his grandson. As soon as the little boy reached him, Peter hugged him tightly. He could feel his warmth, his tiny body, his little arms wrapped around him, and his head full of wild, curly hair.
“Hello, my little Ethan!”
“Grandpa! I’ve missed you so much! I’ve felt so alone! I need you!” Ethan clung to him. “Miss Celeste told me you’d be home soon, but I didn’t know when. Why did you take so long?”
“I was a little busy, but I’m back now…”
“Is it true that you’re going to be a dad?”
Peter looked at Alden and Celeste, smiled, then turned back to his grandson.
“Yes… Celeste is pregnant with two beautiful babies.”
“Yay! I won’t be so alone anymore! Yes!” Ethan shouted excitedly.
“Ethan, sweetheart, let your grandpa settle in first. He must be tired,” Alden said, taking his hand.
“But… Dad…”
“Since when do you talk to Ethan so sweetly?” Peter asked casually. “As far as I remember, you barely did that. Looks like your time together has really helped.”
“Dad! What did you just say? That’s something only you would know…”

“Actually, Celeste and 1 are heading to the hospital. She hasn’t had her check–up this month yet, and I’m taking her,” Peter said, lifting Ethan up into his arms.
“I can have the driver take you,” Alden offered, still worried “Or, if you wait for me, I can come with you.” “Alden, son… Remember who the father is here. I don’t want to be a burden. You’ve already spent a whole month taking care of me. Besides, you have a wife to look after too don’t you? Relax. Don’t worry so much. Celeste is with me—if anything happens, she’d be the first to let you know.”
“Dad…”

“Ethan, my boy, I just came home to grab some papers for celeste. I’m going to check on the babies, but when I get back, we’ll sit down and talk about everything you’ve been up to, okay?”
“Okay, Grandpa… There’s so much I need to tell you…‘

“Alright. Celeste, I’ll wait for you here. Go grab what you need.”
“I won’t be long,” she said before heading to the other room.
As soon as Celeste left the room, Peter turned to his son and grandson, looked at them for a moment, and then said:
“I’m getting married… I want to get married before the babies are born! I feel good, I’m alive–more alive than ever! I want to live. You two are my family, and you’re the most important thing I have.”
“Grandpa… You’re going to marry Miss Celeste?”
“Yes, my boy, I’m going to marry her.”
“She’s really good with kids. I like her a lot! I think it’ll be nice to have her as my grandma.‘
“I completely agree, my boy!” Peter chuckled.
“Dad, please go see Dr. Wagner, okay?” Alden insisted.
“I will, don’t worry so much. Now more than ever, I need to be well…”
