“Hey, so what time should we be there?”
“7:00 PM.”
“Great. I assume it’ll be at Peter’s place?”
“That’s right.”
“By the way, how’s my brother?”
“He’s good. So good that he left for Willowcombe with Celeste today.”
“That Peter–he just can’t sit still, can he?”
“Nope! Ever since he woke up, he’s been like a caged lion. Honestly, can I tell you something?”
“Of course.”
“The old Peter was serious, sometimes even intimidating. But now… he’s completely different–so much more
relaxed. Honestly, Alden seems more responsible than Peter now,” Serenity said as if sharing a secret.
“That’s the Peter he always was! That’s the real Peter! If I’m being honest, I always envied him. He was outgoing, had friends everywhere, and girls were all over him. Though, when we were young, he only saw them as friends. But later…” Maximus said, reminiscing.
“Later what?”
“Well… Peter was quite the ladies‘ man. I was surprised when Alden told me he’s so devoted to Celeste now. For a moment, I worried he wouldn’t step up for the babies.”
“Oh no, I can’t even imagine that! He’s constantly making sure Celeste is okay–they’re always on the move. And I have to admit something.”
“What?”
“Without a doubt, Peter looks happy…”
“That’s one of the things that makes me happiest. Sometimes, I think that losing memories isn’t as bad as it seems… Don’t you think?”
“You really believe that?”
“Of course! I know it sounds harsh, but maybe forgetting isn’t so bad. Just think about it–it must be awful to remember the accident, to remember all of us, to remember that we were never close. At first, it hurt, because the sarcastic Peter who had become my friend was gone. But I’d take this over him having to relive all of his past.”
“Well, only you, my dad, and my mom know everything about his past. I can only say that this version of him surprises us all,” Serenity said confidently.
“Yeah, I agree. Those are things we lived through–only we know how good or bad they were. I feel strange about it… I haven’t seen him since the hospital. But if you say he’s doing well, I believe you.”
“He is. Anyway, have you seen the time? It flew by! I promised to have lunch with my parents, and Alden is probably already at their house.”

“Oh, God! Your husband must be in danger. Did you drive here?”
“Nope, I took an Uber. I’ll call one now…”

“Alright, alright! Let’s go before you arrive just in time to pick up what’s left of my nephew. Let me know whenever you want to visit, and I’ll send a driver. I assume you’re not driving anymore because of the pregnancy, right?”
“That’s right!”
“By the way, where was Alden? Why didn’t he bring you?”
“Maximus, you’re just now thinking about that? Drive faster! Alden stayed behind because he had a video conférence with Theodore.”

“Well, that’s because he’s handling Peter’s business. Since Peter isn’t fully back yet, Alden’s taking charge. You, of all people, should understand that.”

Maximus drove Serenity to Mary and Marcus’s house, waiting only until she was inside before leaving. He didn’t like facing Marcus, and with the upcoming dinner, it was best not to provoke him.
