Peter and Celeste spent a few relaxing days in Willowcomb The house was nothing like the places Peter was used to–not even his home in Galea could compare in size–but despite that, he felt at peace. Living somewhere secluded from everything didn’t seem like such a bad idea.
If Peter looked ahead, he knew he didn’t need to keep working. He had enough money for himself and several generations to come. Sure, he loved the beach, but he could see himself adapting to this place. It gave him a sense of calm he hadn’t felt in a long time.
And then there was Celeste. Seeing her so at home here, soit case, made him like it even more. Watching her bake berry pies, tend to her garden, or walk around with Spike her side–it all made him think that maybe this was the best place for them to live.
The house was small, but the land was large. They could add a few extra rooms, make the necessary adjustments to make life easier. At first, having two babies didn’t seem like it would require much space, but if there was one thing he knew about women, it was that eventually, each of them would want their own.
“Celeste, have you thought about where we’re going to live?” Peter asked as he loaded their bags into the truck, securing Spike’s carrier in the back.
“Galea,” Celeste answered without hesitation. “You love that place, and I can see how comfortable you feel there.”
“No, no, not where I want to live. Where do you want to live?” Peter asked seriously.
“Honestly… I love it here. This is my home, I was born here I grew up here. Not in this house, but in this town. I know it’s not the most exciting place, but it’s home,” she said with a small smile.
Peter stepped closer, wrapped his arms around her, lifted her chin so she’d look at him, and said, “How about this -we wait until the babies are born, and then we decide where to live. In the meantime, we can start making some additions to this place. I know it might seem unnecessary now, but trust me, when our daughters grow up, we’re going to need the space. And for my own sanity, I’d rather plan ahead.”
“Peter!”
“What? Think about it–I’m going to be the only man in this house. You know that when our daughters hit their teenage years, they’re going to be little devils… You know it” he said, grinning.
“You can’t possibly know that… Maybe they’ll be calm and sweet. I was,” Celeste said innocently.
“Yeah, my love, but you’re forgetting one thing–half of their genes come from me.”
Celeste blinked before sighing in mock defeat. “Well… when you put it that way, you have a point.”
“Exactly. At least one of them is going to have my personality. I’m not afraid of your temper, but mine? That scares me,” Peter admitted, looking genuinely worried.
The moment Peter found out he was going to be a father, he secretly hoped for boys. He knew karma was going to -make him pay for everything he had put his grandmother, Catherine, through. He knew himself–his personality wasn’t exactly easy. And if you added daughters into the mit? Things could get very complicated.
Now that he knew he was having two girls, he was sure of Karma had come for him. These were his princesses, and at least one of them was bound to be just like him–stubborn and reckless.
“What kind of changes do you want to make to the house?” Celeste asked, bringing him back to reality.
“Well, I think we should add at least two more bedrooms. We should expand our room, too. I’m guessing you’d like a bigger kitchen. I also noticed there’s some land for sale next door–we could look into buying it and

expanding the garden. Stuff like that,” Peter said, glancing at the house. “What do you think?”
“I suppose we could do that… especially since your little ‘demons‘ are probably going to make you cry,” Celeste teased.
“Don’t mock me. I know one of them is going to be my karma. I can feel it in my bones,” Peter said, looking truly unsettled.
“Come on, let’s get going. I don’t want to get home too late and you hate driving long distances at night,” Celeste said, trying to climb into the truck.
“You’re absolutely right,” Peter said, helping her up.
“By the way… why don’t you like driving at night?”
“Well… it’s a short story, but in summary–I crashed, totaled the car, and ever since then, I don’t trust the road at night.”
Celeste frowned. “That’s it?”
“Not exactly… I don’t trust my eyesight at night. That time, my vision failed me. It was ironic, actually. Before I met Marcus, I tried to kill myself. And after I met him, when he gave me my first car, I got overconfident and crashed it straight into a wall. Luckily, I only walked away with a bruised arm and some scrapes.
“That night, I thought I was going to die. And for the first time, I was scared to die. It made me see life differently. It sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? First, I wanted to die. Then, when death was right in front of me, I was terrified.
“I couldn’t see myself leaving this world so young. I was alone, and yet… I was scared to die.
“Now? I’m not alone anymore. And let’s just say… I don’t fear death, but I’m definitely not looking for it either.”
